Product Controller – Commodities search for a ~$127B AUM global quantitative investment manager with a highly diversified, systematic investment platform spanning equities, fixed income, commodities, and other asset classes.
This is a high-impact role focused on overseeing fund and group valuations, leading the independent price verification (IPV) process, strengthening valuation governance, and partnering closely with Portfolio Management, Finance, Operations, and Compliance. They're looking for someone with deep expertise in complex valuation methodologies, hedge fund or banking product control experience, and a strong understanding of US GAAP/IFRS, regulatory reporting, and valuation controls.
Position Overview- Fund Valuations: Oversee and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual valuation process for various asset classes including equities, fixed income, Commodities.
- Group Valuations: Oversee and execute annual and add hoc valuation processes for Global Group of Companies and work with independent valuation companies/review their work.
- Independent Price Verification (IPV): Lead the IPV process, diligently challenging pricing from internal and external sources (brokers, administrators, pricing vendors). Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (US GAAP/IFRS) and regulatory requirements throughout the IPV process.
- Valuation Governance: Develop and maintain robust valuation policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to best practices and industry standards. Actively participate in valuation committee meetings, presenting well-supported findings and recommendations. Drive continuous improvement in valuation processes.
- Financial & Investor Reporting: Prepare and review accurate and comprehensive valuation reports, including detailed supporting documentation and analysis, for internal stakeholders, external auditors, and investors. Address investor queries related to valuations.
- CPA or equivalent accredited qualification
- 8+ years of experience in product control or a related valuation role within a hedge fund or bank
- Deep understanding of valuation methodologies across various asset classes, including complex financial instruments. Demonstrable ability to apply these methodologies practically
- Proven experience with independent price verification (IPV) processes, including a strong understanding of market data sources and vendor relationships
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to clearly articulate complex valuation concepts to different audiences
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding, fast-paced environment. Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software applications. Experience with valuation systems (e.g., Bloomberg, Markit) is a plus
- Solid knowledge of relevant accounting standards (US GAAP/IFRS) and regulatory requirements
