Mortgage Research VP

Join Barclays as a Mortgage Research VP, where you will develop and articulate investment strategies and produce and publish thematic research on mortgage-backed securities for internal and external audiences. Assess large and multi-layered datasets to identify market opportunities, risks, and emerging trends across mortgages and fixed income markets. Work with traders, salespeople, other research teams, and clients to provide actionable insights and recommendations.

Evaluate market developments, macroeconomic trends, consumer behaviour, and credit dynamics impacting mortgage markets.

• Ample communication, presentation, and writing skills with the ability to effectively communicate highly detailed market views
• Demonstrated experience in mortgages, RMBS/MBS, fixed income investing, or related markets
• Attention to detail and ability to operate in a fast-paced, market-driven environment
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Bloomberg
• Experience working with large and multi-layered datasets to support investment research and strategy-making

• Proficiency in SQL and/or Python for data evaluation, automation, and research applications
• Experience leveraging data science, analytics, or AI tools to improve research workflows and investment processes
• Critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities
• Broad understanding of economics, credit markets, and mortgage-related products
• Demonstrated curiosity and commitment to continuous learning

• Analysis of market, sector, corporate and/or economic data to help develop investment theses for your coverage universe to produce best in class Research.
• Research may range from individual company or sector notes, through to long dated thematic reports.
• Presentation of Research views to Barclays Clients; this can be through direct, face to face and virtual interactions, Research hosted events and written communications.
• Engagement with Markets, Client Strategy and other stakeholders, to raise awareness of your Research both to Clients and internally. Prioritise interaction with the most relevant and valuable Clients for your Research.
• Provision of insights and Research views to internal Clients to help them navigate financial markets and risks.
• Collaboration with the Supervisory Analyst, Compliance and other stakeholders to ensure Research is produced and delivered to Clients and internal stakeholders in a compliant manner.

• Contribute or set strategy, drive requirements and make recommendations for change. Plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain policies/processes; deliver continuous improvements and elevate any breach of policies/procedures.
• If managing a team, define jobs and responsibilities, plan for the department’s future needs and operations, counsel employees on performance and contributing to employee pay decisions/changes. Lead specialists to influence operations, balancing short and long term goals and meeting corporate requirements.
