Magnetar is a leading global alternative asset manager with ~$17B AUM as of April 1, 2026. We are based in Evanston, IL—just north of Chicago—and have additional offices in New York, London, Menlo Park, CA, and Austin, TX. Grounded in two decades of investing experience, we aim to generate consistent performance for our investors by identifying differentiated investment opportunities and building scalable businesses across our core strategies:
Alternative Credit and Fixed Income, Quantitative Investing, and Venture.

Position Overview

Magnetar is seeking a driven, intellectually curious Investor Relations/Business Development Analyst to join our team in our Evanston or New York office. The Analyst will work closely with senior Business Development professionals to support the full scope of the Firm's investor relations and fundraising efforts—including marketing materials, investor communications, operational due diligence, and targeted prospecting campaigns. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self‑starter with a passion for finance and client relationships who thrives in a fast‑paced, intellectually demanding environment and is eager to leverage emerging technology and AI tools to drive efficiency and impact.

Responsibilities
  • Help create and update marketing materials, including presentations, tear‑sheets, and DDQs.
  • Build presentations for investor meetings, diligence and reporting purposes.
  • Support marketing roadshows and discrete fundraising campaigns, including coordination of meetings and providing requested materials.
  • Support and help coordinate investor operational due diligence meetings.
  • Complete follow‑up items from both investor and internal meetings, including any investor questionnaires and portfolio data requests.
  • Assist in servicing existing investors and help build relationships with key junior members of investor staff.
  • Leverage AI and data tools to extract actionable insights from market intelligence, and partner with senior team members to design targeted investor prospecting and campaign strategies.
  • Monitor and deliver on relevant investor reporting obligations.
  • Manage cross‑functional projects and work streams across the IR/BD team, including tracking deliverables, timelines, and stakeholder follow‑ups.
  • Identify opportunities to create efficiencies in standard IR/BD processes through the use of AI tools and automation.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance or Economics (or a closely related business degree) with strong academic performance.
  • 1–3 years of total work experience in the financial services industry, preferably in an Investment Banking seat, Investor Relations role, or asset‑manager setting, especially in alternatives such as hedge funds, fund‑of‑funds, or private equity.
  • Exposure to working with institutional clients and investors is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to experiment with emerging technology.
  • Positive attitude with willingness to contribute wherever possible.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, maturity, and self‑confidence to represent Magnetar both internally and externally.
  • Self‑starter who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, takes initiative to identify problems and build solutions, and proactively seeks ways to improve team processes and efficiency.
  • Strong sense of ownership, obligation, and personal accountability.
Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $120,000 USD. The actual base salary will depend upon the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, skills, business needs, and market. This role may be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Benefits

We offer top‑tier benefits including comprehensive health, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) match, competitive paid time off, wellness programs, daily lunches, and professional development through Magnetar University.
