Overview

Wells Group of New York is a finance and accounting advisory firm serving high-growth, private equity-backed, venture-backed, and founder‑led companies across media, healthcare, SaaS, consumer, fintech, and other complex industries. We provide interim CFO, Controller, accounting, FP&A, audit readiness, strategic finance, and transaction support, and we have advised companies through financings, M&A, turnarounds, accounting transformations, and periods of rapid growth.

Wells Group is entering a new phase of scale, evolving from a founder‑led consulting firm into a broader CFO platform of proven CFOs, Controllers, and finance leaders who serve sophisticated clients with the judgment, credibility, and execution discipline expected of a top‑tier professional services firm.

We are open to structuring this role as a full‑time hire or as an independent contractor / fractional engagement, depending on your situation and the fit. Both paths offer meaningful client leadership and firm‑building involvement.

The Role

As a CFO at Wells Group, whether full‑time or on a fractional / contract basis, you will serve as CFO to our clients while helping lead and scale the firm. You will step into high‑stakes client situations, including capital raises, M&A processes, board reporting, restructurings, finance department builds, cash management, and audit readiness, across private equity and venture‑backed growth environments. This is both a client‑facing leadership role and a firm‑building role: a trusted CFO to our clients, and a partner helping Wells Group institutionalize its model, grow revenue, recruit senior talent, and expand its reputation in the market.

Client

Leadership
  • Serve as interim CFO or senior finance advisor to Wells Group clients.
  • Lead financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, board reporting, cash management, KPI development, and strategic planning.
  • Advise CEOs, founders, boards, investors, and private equity sponsors on financial performance, capital allocation, growth strategy, and operational improvement.
  • Support clients through financings, M&A transactions, diligence processes, lender conversations, and investor communications.
  • Identify and solve finance and accounting gaps, including weak reporting, poor controls, delayed closes, cash flow issues, audit problems, or underdeveloped FP&A functions.
  • Firm Leadership
  • Help build Wells Group into the leading CFO platform for high‑growth and lower middle market companies.
  • Develop repeatable playbooks, client service models, reporting standards, and team structures.
  • Manage and mentor Controllers, FP&A professionals, accountants, and offshore team members.
  • Support recruiting of experienced CFOs, Controllers, and finance operators into the platform.
  • Participate in business development, including prospect meetings, proposal strategy, relationship management, and expansion of existing accounts.
  • Represent Wells Group in the market with investors, founders, bankers, attorneys, recruiters, and strategic partners.
Execution & Accountability
  • Own engagement quality, client satisfaction, profitability, and team performance.
  • Ensure client deliverables are accurate, timely, board‑ready, and commercially useful.
  • Create financial reporting and decision‑making frameworks that help clients improve performance.
  • Balance high‑level strategic advice with hands‑on execution when necessary.
  • Operate with urgency, judgment, discretion, and a high degree of ownership.
What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years of senior finance leadership experience, ideally including CFO, VP Finance, Controller, investment banking, private equity, restructuring, or transaction advisory roles.
  • Experience working with venture‑backed, private equity‑backed, founder‑led, or high‑growth companies.
  • Strong command of accounting, FP&A, cash flow management, board reporting, capital raising, M&A, audit readiness, and operational finance.
  • Ability to communicate credibly with CEOs, boards, investors, lenders, and senior operators.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex client or company situations.
  • Commercial mindset with an interest in business development, relationship building, and firm growth.
  • Professional…
