Natixis CIB Americas is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and strategic Senior Commodity Trader (US Power & US Gas) to join our team in New York. In this pivotal role, you will trade US Energy products and manage strategic positions, with a primary focus on Energy Derivatives (both linear and non-linear) and a specialized emphasis on the US Power and US Gas markets.
As a Senior US Gas & Power Trader, you will play a critical role in developing and executing the Commodities Markets (CM) US Energy business strategy. You will collaborate with global CM stakeholders to design innovative pricing structures and hubs, lead the training and coaching of trading resources, and support the structuring of complex deals. Key Responsibilities- Maximize long-term revenues and optimize costs in alignment with the Commodities Markets business line strategy and authorized risk parameters.
- Formulate, implement, and execute highly effective trading and hedging strategies arising from client transactions within approved risk limits.
- Monitor trading positions against performance benchmarks actively, taking decisive and timely action as required.
- Maintain deep, real-time awareness of market trends, regulatory developments, macroeconomic data, and other critical market factors likely to impact the trading book.
- Partner with quantitative and IT teams to ensure the implementation of robust pricing models and analytical tools, sponsoring specific development projects as needed.
- Support the Bank's client-service initiatives by ensuring seamless, ethical transaction execution that delivers competitive pricing and meets both client expectations and Natixis standards.
- Ensure all products within the trading book are accurately recorded and marked to market/model, verify all desk-managed parameters, and promptly elevate any unmarked positions to management.
- Verify that clients are fully cleared by Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Operations prior to executing any trades.
- Confirm that appropriate credit lines, documentation, and New Product Committee (NPC) approvals are active and in place before engaging in market transactions.
- Adhere strictly to market risk mandates, maintaining unwavering compliance with set limits, product permissions, and regulatory requirements at all times.
- Collaborate with Market Risk to ensure the daily P&L of the book and reported client contributions are materially accurate.
- Record all executed trades in a timely manner, proactively assist in resolving trade breaks, and promptly report any late-booked or amended trades to the Risk Department.
- Comply fully with all applicable legal, regulatory, and internal Compliance policies, including the Americas Compliance Manual, security protocols, and financial security requirements to prevent financial crime and fraud.
- Work closely with sales and structuring teams to develop and propose tailored, innovative products for clients.
- Facilitate the seamless flow of market intelligence, trends, and business progress reports to the Heads of Desk and the broader Commodities Markets team.
- Liaise regularly with counter parties and brokers to obtain market intelligence, secure competitive quotes, and manage inter-book hedging.
- Provide reliable trading coverage for colleagues during absences as requested by line management.
- Promote cross-departmental cooperation to support the broader Natixis strategy, fostering a collaborative, proactive, and client-centric team culture.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in financial services, including 7+ years of successful, hands‑on commodities trading experience within a major financial institution.
- Market Expertise: Deep, comprehensive knowledge of the US Gas and US Power markets, with a proven track record of pricing and risk‑managing US Energy underlyings (derivatives and physical proxies).
