A leading advisory and investigations platform is seeking a Director to join its growing Bankruptcy, Restructuring & Special Situations practice. This is a unique opportunity to work across a diverse mix of fiduciary appointments, complex investigations, restructuring engagements, distressed situations, and litigation-related matters.
The role offers significant client exposure, direct interaction with senior stakeholders, and the opportunity to take ownership of high-profile assignments involving financial distress, insolvency, recovery strategy, and special situations. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, commercially minded, and comfortable operating at the intersection of finance, restructuring, and legal processes.
The OpportunityThis is a highly visible position within a collaborative and entrepreneurial team advising companies, boards, lenders, creditors, trustees, committees, legal counsel, and other stakeholders on some of the most complex distressed and special situations mandates in the market.
You will play a key role in managing engagements, leading work streams, developing client relationships, and contributing to the continued growth of the practice.
Key Responsibilities Fiduciary & Court-Appointed Engagements- Support the administration of bankruptcy estates, litigation trusts, liquidating trusts, and receiverships.
- Manage asset administration, claims reconciliation, distributions, stakeholder reporting, and wind-down activities.
- Serve as a key advisor to court-appointed fiduciaries, trustees, receivers, and independent directors.
- Analyze potential causes of action arising from insolvency situations, including fraudulent conveyance, fiduciary duty matters, and other commercial disputes.
- Reconstruct and evaluate historical transactions, financings, asset sales, leveraged transactions, and sponsor activity.
- Support forensic reviews, asset tracing efforts, evidentiary development, and coordination with legal counsel and litigation stakeholders.
- Advise lenders, boards, committees, and other stakeholders on restructurings, workouts, and Chapter 11 matters.
- Develop and execute recovery and restructuring strategies designed to maximize stakeholder value.
- Support interim management, chief restructuring officer, and other fiduciary leadership engagements.
- Analyze complex capital structures, recovery scenarios, lien priorities, and payment waterfalls.
- Build and evaluate liquidity forecasts, 13-week cash flow models, distressed valuations, recovery analyses, and integrated financial models.
- Assess distressed credit opportunities and special situations.
- Review credit agreements, indentures, court filings, and other legal documentation to identify value drivers and risks.
- Prepare memoranda, board materials, presentations, and expert-level analyses for sophisticated stakeholders.
- Monitor stressed and distressed opportunities and assist with business development initiatives and mandate sourcing.
Successful candidates may come from backgrounds including:
- Restructuring or bankruptcy advisory
- Turnaround and special situations consulting
- Distressed debt or credit investing
- Leveraged finance or workout/special assets groups
- Restructuring-focused investment banking
- Bankruptcy and restructuring legal practices
- 4+ years of experience in restructuring, insolvency, distressed investing, leveraged finance, turnaround advisory, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of bankruptcy and restructuring processes, corporate credit, and distressed situations.
- Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills.
- Experience reviewing complex legal and financial documentation, including credit agreements and court filings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface directly with clients and senior stakeholders.
- Strong project management capabilities and ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously.
- Commercial judgment and the ability to identify key drivers of stakeholder outcomes.
