PositionThe Shalom Hartman Institute of North America is seeking an experienced and collaborative Vice President of Finance to oversee day-to-day financial operations and partner closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Executive Vice President (EVP) on strategic financial management. The Vice President of Finance will play a critical role in partnering with our fundraising team, ensuring that our budgets reflect our programmatic activity, in supporting strong financial controls, sound budgeting and forecasting, effective audit, investment, and finance committee support, and high-quality financial reporting across the organization.
Reporting to the CFO in Israel, and to SHI NA’s EVP in New York, the VP of Finance will manage the North American finance team and work cross-functionally with development, program, and operations colleagues to support the Institute’s mission through responsible and transparent financial stewardship. This position is based in our NY office, with the expectation that at least four days per week are in the office.
Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership and Operations- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the North American finance function, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial processes.
- Ensure strong internal financial controls, sound financial policies, and adherence to nonprofit accounting standards and best practices.
- Oversee core accounting processes, including general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, payroll coordination, and bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Supervise operational financial processes, including procurement procedures, vendor management, contracts, and payment cycles.
- Ensure the effective use and continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.
- Lead the preparation of organizational budgets and periodic re-forecasts in close partnership with the CFO, EVP, and departmental leadership.
- Monitor financial performance against budget and provide clear variance analysis and actionable recommendations.
- Develop financial models and analyses to support strategic planning, program growth, and long-term sustainability.
- Support the preparation and monitoring of cash flow projections to ensure organizational liquidity and alignment between programmatic activity and funding cycles.
- Oversee financial administration of grants and donor-restricted funds, ensuring compliance with grant agreements and donor requirements.
- Partner closely with the Development team to support grant budgeting and the preparation of financial reports and proposals for foundations, institutional funders, individual donors and other stakeholders.
- Ensure appropriate tracking and monitoring of restricted and unrestricted revenues and expenditures.
- Support reconciliation between development and finance records related to fundraising and grants.
- Ensure proper application of nonprofit fund accounting principles and accurate allocation of revenues and expenses across programs and funding sources. Audit, Compliance, and Governance
