Position SummaryApollo is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Credit Manager to join our Credit Department team. This position plays an important role in managing customer credit, collections, and accounts receivable while supporting the financial health of our business.
Working closely with the Credit Manager, this individual will evaluate customer creditworthiness, oversee collection activities, resolve account issues, and collaborate with sales and other internal teams to balance customer relationships with responsible credit decisions.
This role provides a clear advancement path toward the Credit Manager position for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with daily operations of the Credit & Collections Department.
- Review commercial credit applications, financial statements, and customer accounts to establish appropriate credit limits.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and proactively manage collections.
- Evaluate credit risk for flooring retailers, contractors, builders, and trade customers.
- Partner with sales representatives and branch managers to support business growth while maintaining credit standards.
- Resolve billing issues, deductions, disputes, and payment discrepancies.
- Recommend account holds, credit adjustments, and payment arrangements when needed.
- Prepare reporting related to collections, aging, bad debt exposure, and department performance.
- Assist with improving credit policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Provide leadership and support to the credit team in the Credit Manager's absence.
- Support audits and accounting initiatives as needed.
Required:
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
- Ability to build strong relationships with customers and internal teams.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Commercial credit and collections experience.
- Experience in distribution, wholesale, flooring, building materials, or construction.
- Knowledge of financial statement analysis and commercial credit practices.
