Director, Investment Banking, FIG

Requisition

Purpose

Leverage industry and financial/transactional experience to originate and execute financing and advisory opportunities for the FIG Group, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a client‑centric culture, deepening relationships and leveraging Bank‑wide resources to deliver solutions.
  • Coordinate with product groups and industry teams within Global Banking and Markets.
  • Develop and maintain effective industry relationships with clients.
  • Lead the origin and sourcing of fee‑generating opportunities for Scotiabank in partnership with sector, product, and geographic teams.
  • Enhance product capabilities and build global industry specialization in key sectors; drive growth in new international markets.
  • Use finance and capital markets knowledge to build relationships and address client needs.
  • Develop client solutions and originate work; support the FIG Group in evaluating and executing advisory, underwriting, lending, hedging, and payment solutions.
  • Advise clients in preparing data and presentations, providing key input for financial modeling.
  • Manage end‑to‑end advisory and equity underwriting transactions, ensuring client and regulatory satisfaction.
  • Train and develop junior bankers, providing constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Partner with group leaders to build team dynamics and engagement.
  • Assist in resource management and prioritization of work.
  • Ensure compliance with Scotiabank’s values, code of conduct, and business controls.
  • Build a high‑performance environment and implement a people strategy to attract, retain, develop, and motivate the team.

Qualifications

  • 9+ years of industry experience, preferably in investment banking, capital markets, or M&A.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Science, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets and sector/product knowledge.
  • Strong quantitative skills in financial analysis, accounting, and financial theory.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet demanding deadlines.
  • Effective teamwork and high professional standards.
  • Adaptability and independent critical thinking.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required FINRA registration and licensing.
