Global Banking and Markets (GBM)

GBM is a leading Canadian Capital Markets and Investment Banking business with a growing platform in the US and Latin America, operating globally for over 100 years. Scotiabank’s strong U.S. presence provides clients an important bridge to this key global market for trade and investment flows across the Americas and the world. GBM offers a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of clients.

Purpose

Responsible for executing on a broad range of transactions. Prepare client presentations and financial modeling. Work closely with Associates/Associate Directors to support Directors/MDs in managing client relationships. Contribute to the overall success of the team, ensuring specific goals, plans and initiatives are executed in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensure all activities comply with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities
  • Champion a client‑centric culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems and knowledge to deliver solutions across Scotiabank’s footprint and generate revenue.
    • Coordinate with various product groups and industry team within GBM
    • Develop and maintain effective industry relationships with legal counsel, external parties, clients
  • Day‑to‑day responsibilities include:
    • Evaluating and analyzing the financial needs of corporate clients
    • Creating marketing materials and presentations
    • Supporting transaction structuring and execution efforts, with increasing responsibility over time
    • Identifying and developing business opportunities with clients
    • Performing comprehensive financial statement analysis and creating and maintaining models
    • Collecting, consolidating and interpreting company and industry data
    • Applying product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve their financial objectives
  • Actively contribute to a high‑performance and inclusive work environment
What You’ll Bring
  • 0–2 years’ work experience in Investment Banking
  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Business, Finance, Math, Engineering, Economics, Science or Technology
  • Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis, accounting and financial theory
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Suite, with an emphasis on Excel
  • High level of attention to detail
  • High energy and keen desire to learn new concepts
  • Obtain and maintain required FINRA registration and licensing appropriate to responsibilities
