Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Finance Manager (Valuations)
Location: New York

Our client, a merchant bank with an integrated advisory and investment platform serving business owners and long-term strategic investors, is seeking a Valuation and Portfolio Data professional to join their Finance team in either New York City or Chicago. The position owns preparation and review of quarterly portfolio valuations presented to the Valuation Committee, whose members include executive leadership, and offers broad exposure across private equity with opportunities to engage in private credit, real estate, and venture investments.

Beyond the quarterly cycle, the Finance team is advancing a wider data and reporting agenda focused on how portfolio and fund information is used across valuation, monitoring, and investor reporting - so the mandate extends into analytics, performance drivers, and value-creation insight. This is a high-autonomy seat with direct impact on leadership decision-making and meaningful room for advancement on a team where technical depth and collaboration are equally valued.

Job Responsibilities
  • Review valuations prepared by deal team members for accuracy, appropriateness, and adherence to the firm's valuation policy, and prepare valuations directly in certain instances
  • Analyze portfolio company financials, both historical results and projections, to test the reasonableness of key valuation assumptions
  • Benchmark valuations against guideline public companies and precedent transactions, assessing comparability across business model, growth profile, profitability, capital structure, and market conditions
  • Perform ad hoc and sensitivity analyses at the request of leadership or the Valuation Committee to gauge the impact of assumptions or market developments
  • Prepare valuation materials for the Valuation Committee and serve as primary liaison to deal team professionals throughout the process, supporting data submissions and ensuring timely, accurate delivery
  • Coordinate with external auditors and third-party valuation firms as applicable
  • Forecast investment returns and track portfolio performance metrics; monitor portfolio company financial information to surface trends, risks, and performance drivers
  • Review legal agreements to assess key security terms - payment provisions, put/call mechanisms, conversion features, change-of-control rights - and their implications for valuation and cash-flow modeling
  • Maintain and review a database of portfolio company financial metrics and investment performance statistics
  • Summarize portfolio-level financial information for senior management to support investment decision-making and value-creation initiatives
  • Build and improve data collection and information-sharing processes across asset classes and functions
  • Coordinate with the financial reporting team on quarterly deliverables and prepare performance metrics for portfolio investments, investors, and other stakeholders
  • Develop command of investment security structures and fund-level waterfall allocations
  • Identify opportunities to better leverage available data, reduce manual spreadsheet work, and partner with technical teams to translate business needs into scalable reporting solutions
  • Support investor relations, business development, and fundraising processes; contribute to ad hoc efficiency projects and deal transactions, including regulatory data requests
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3-8 years of accounting or finance experience with direct valuation exposure
  • Private equity valuation experience required; credit and real estate exposure valued
  • Additional credentials such as ABV, ASA, CFA, or CPA desirable
  • Prior experience at an investment adviser or asset manager preferred
  • Tech-forward mindset with the ability to connect valuation and reporting needs to practical data, dashboarding, and automation opportunities
  • Familiarity with data management and analytics tools such as iLevel, Snowflake, Power BI, Workiva, or Anaplan preferred but not required, along with comfort partnering with technical teams on reporting and process design
  • Exceptional attention to detail paired with strong relationship management skills
  • Self-starter mentality with willingness to take on responsibility beyond the valuation function
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities and a high degree of change
  • Based in New York City or Chicago, with four days per week in office

The annual base salary range is up to $175,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
