North is seeking a Vice President to join its Direct Lending team in New York, with a specific focus on healthcare underwriting. The platform is focused on middle market senior debt financings. The Direct Lending team has deployed over $3.0 billion across more than 50 portfolio companies, and has more than $8 billion raised across a range of vehicles including BDCs, CLOs, SMAs, and rated notes.
Operating in a lean team environment, the Vice President will work directly with senior leadership and firm-wide investment committees and will mentor junior members of the deal team. The role offers meaningful interaction with financial sponsors, management teams, and healthcare advisory relationships, along with the opportunity to help shape the continued build-out of the firm’s private credit platform and its healthcare franchise.
Responsibilities- Manage credit investment diligence, screening and underwriting process focused primarily on middle market healthcare businesses
- Attend management and sponsor meetings in support of origination and underwriting of prospective investments
- Conduct detailed industry, business and financial due diligence on prospective investments
- Prepare in-depth financial and data analysis for potential investments
- Prepare thorough investment memorandums and presentations
- Communicate and defend investment theses to internal stakeholders and committees, including relevant firm wide Investment Committees
- Build and leverage relationships with sponsors, management teams and internal stakeholders
- Maintain knowledge of new investments and monitor financial performance
- Fulfill all portfolio management requirements including on-going credit analysis, reporting and follow-on credit activities (amendments, recapitalizations, acquisitions, restructurings, etc.)
- Support the creation and management of marketing materials
- Support the build out of the direct lending workflow and investment infrastructure
- Track healthcare industry updates including regulatory and reimbursement news related to key sectors
- Assist in the dissemination of healthcare industry updates to the relevant internal audiences
- Maintain relationships and dialogue with healthcare regulatory advisory firms
- 7+ years of experience; investment banking (leveraged finance, financial sponsors, restructuring preferred but not required) plus Direct Lending (after 1-2 years of banking)
- Majority of direct lending experience to be focused on underwriting private equity backed healthcare businesses across subsectors, including but not limited to: medical device/equipment, pharmaceutical/pharmacy services, healthcare services, payor services, and HCIT
- Advanced modeling and valuation capabilities with deep proficiency in Excel and Power Point
- Passion for investing with specific interest in credit / other structured products
- Highly-motivated work ethic and a commitment to a rapidly-moving, entrepreneurial environment
- Effectively prioritizes, multi-tasks and meets deadlines while maintaining attention to detail
- Demonstrates strong investment judgment; identifies risk and proposes solutions
