This opportunity is 5 days in the office in New York City.
We are seeking a Controller to join a highly respected investment firm that has a long-standing track record in private equity and is currently investing its sixth fund. Building on that success, the firm recently launched a Private Credit platform and is deploying its inaugural $1 billion fund.
This is a rare chance to join an established and well-capitalized organization at the ground level of a rapidly growing business. This position will report directly to both the Fund Manager and the COO of Credit, providing significant visibility and influence across the platform. The position offers a unique blend of strategic and hands‑on responsibility. As a key member of the team, you will help build and refine the fund’s operating model, lead critical finance and accounting processes, and collaborate closely with investment professionals, legal, investor relations, marketing, vendors, and limited partners.
For professionals looking to accelerate their careers, this role presents substantial growth potential. As the sole finance hire within the Credit business today, you will have the opportunity to shape the function from the ground up. With no existing CFO in place, the role offers a clear path for advancement as the platform continues to scale.
Job Description:- Fund accounting across the credit platform, start to finish — spanning the current flagship fund, the continuation vehicle, and future credit vehicles as they launch.
- Administrator oversight — reviewing NAVs, capital activity, LP allocations, waterfall math, and management‑fee calculations, plus close deliverables, administrator work papers, and eFront outputs.
- Income accounting across a varied credit book — cash and PIK interest, OID accretion, market discount, amendment and prepayment fees, non‑accrual calls on stressed names, realized/unrealized activity, and the accounting effects of amendments.
- Review of loan‑level reconciliations — produced through the credit operations process, tying out Fund Studio, administrator records, agent‑bank notices, and Clear Par settlement data against paydowns, PIK activity, fees, and their accounting impact.
- Finance inputs for LP reporting — quarterly and ad hoc, covering NAV, capital activity, investor allocations, accounting P&L, income/yield data, reconciled loan‑level detail, and portfolio breakdowns by industry, seniority, and credit quality.
- Cash and treasury management for the credit funds — capital calls, distributions, drawdowns and paydowns, fund‑level cash reconciliations, cash forecasting support, wire/payment controls, and oversight of any leverage facilities from an accounting, NAV, audit, and tax standpoint.
- Audit and tax coordination — financial statement review, audit support, administrator and auditor requests, tax data and transaction facts, K-1 management, and coordination with tax advisors — working closely with Big 4 firms on both fronts.
- Management company budgeting and forecasting for the credit business — building annual budgets and periodic forecasts, tracking budget‑versus‑actual results, platform expenses, vendor and technology costs, hiring plans, and new‑fund launch costs, in coordination with the broader management company accounting team.
- Credit GP accounting and reporting — GP entity accounting, GP commitment tracking, carried interest/incentive allocation support, member reporting inputs, and tax distribution support, in coordination with outside advisors.
- Process, control, and systems build‑out — working with leadership to design accounting controls, reporting workflows, data handoffs, reconciliation frameworks, treasury controls, tax coordination, and GP reporting processes for a growing platform.
- Cross‑team coordination — partnering with the Private Equity finance team wherever the credit and PE strategies hold positions in the same portfolio company.
- Experience:
7-12+ years in fund accounting with meaningful private credit exposure, ideally at a well‑regarded credit manager. - Credentials: CPA (or actively working toward one) strongly preferred.
- An operator who's hands‑on, organized, and proactive, and who can work directly with senior partners and outside service providers without close supervision. This role sits close to sensitive deal information, LP relationships, GP economics, tax matters, and partner/member reporting.
