AVP, Operational Risk & Governance (Financial Services

Position Summary Our client, a well-established Japanese financial institution, is seeking an Assistant Vice President (AVP) to join its Risk Management team in New York.

This position is responsible for supporting and enhancing enterprise risk governance, operational risk management, risk reporting, policy development, and committee governance activities. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to the continuous improvement of the organization's risk management framework and oversight functions.

Responsibilities

• Support the development, review, and enhancement of risk management policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
• Lead and strengthen operational risk management initiatives across the organization.
• Maintain and update risk-related policies and procedures.
• Support and enhance model risk management processes and governance.
• Monitor and assess emerging risks and integrate them into the risk framework.
• Coordinate committee governance activities, including meeting materials and minutes.
• Prepare and enhance risk reporting, dashboards, and management metrics.
• Develop and monitor non-financial risk metrics and operational resilience indicators.
• Track and report operational risk events and control issues.
• Prepare reports and presentations for senior management and governance committees.
• Support risk management training and awareness initiatives.

Qualifications

• Perform additional departmental reporting and administrative responsibilities as needed.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in risk management, operational risk, enterprise risk, or risk reporting within the financial services industry.
• Experience working in a complex and regulated financial institution.
• Strong understanding of risk governance and risk management frameworks.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and reporting skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Requirements

• Banking or financial services industry experience.
• Knowledge of operational risk management practices.
• Understanding of model risk management frameworks.
• Familiarity with U.S. banking regulations and regulatory expectations.
• Experience preparing reports for senior management and governance committees.
• Project management and cross-functional stakeholder management experience.
