WHAT YOU'LL OWNCorporate Income Tax Compliance & Review – Primary Responsibility

The Tax Analyst is responsible for corporate income tax compliance work and, over time, for reviewing returns prepared by our offshore team. This is the core of the role and the primary path for technical development.

  • Prepare and help review federal and state corporate income tax returns
  • Tie return results back to the financial statements and work through book-to-tax (M-1/M-3) adjustments
  • Build the judgment to distinguish routine items from issues that require escalation
  • Own the e-file process and the repeatable workflows that get a return filed cleanly
  • Be the real-time point of contact for clients, keeping open items and questions moving
  • Own tax notices end to end – researching what happened, resolving it with the agency, and closing the loop
Sales & Use Tax and R&D Credits – Expanding Your Range

Beyond income tax, the analyst supports sales and use tax compliance – tracking nexus and registration requirements, supporting filings, and flagging potential exposure – as well as R&D tax credit studies, including identifying qualified research expenses and preparing supporting documentation. These areas offer meaningful opportunities to develop specialized expertise.

Deal & Advisory Exposure

As part of a transaction-focused advisory firm, the Analyst gains exposure to the tax aspects of M&A, including how diligence findings, historical exposures, and structuring considerations factor into live transactions.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate is early in their tax career, technically capable, and eager to develop across multiple tax disciplines. Equally important are ownership, reliability, and a willingness to operate beyond a narrowly defined role.

  • High Ownership: Takes responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks. Closes loops rather than leaving them open.
  • Learning Agility: Picks up unfamiliar areas – sales tax, R&D, deal work – quickly, and treats them as opportunities rather than someone else's job.
  • Reliability & Organization: Keeps many small, deadline-driven items moving at once without dropping any.
  • Sound Judgment: Learns to tell a routine item they can handle from one that genuinely needs to be escalated.
  • Comfort with Ambiguity: Makes reasonable assumptions, documents them, and keeps work moving when information is incomplete.
  • Coachability: Receives review comments and feedback well and applies them constructively.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • CPA required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 1–2 years of tax experience, ideally in income tax compliance
  • Corporate tax return experience – enough to grow into a reviewer
  • One Source or GoSystems experience a plus
THE OPPORTUNITY

This role offers significant growth and responsibility. Within 12–18 months, the right person will progress from preparing and supporting returns to reviewing them, manage client relationships independently, and develop breadth across sales and use tax, R&D credits, and transaction support, with a clear path to advancement as the practice scales.

We can teach return review, our processes, R&D credit methodology, sales and use tax mechanics, and the tax aspects of transactions. What we can't teach is ownership, judgment, and initiative.
