Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: New York

A specialist insurer with a team focused exclusively on the clean energy insurance space is building out a new tax credit insurance offering aimed at the market that has grown up around recent federal clean energy incentives. The business underwrites property and revenue-related cover for solar, wind and other low-carbon assets, and has built its own extensive dataset of energy projects and historical loss experience to support pricing and risk assessment.

This is a genuine ground-floor opportunity to join a global insurers, purpose-built team as it stands up a brand-new function.

You'll sit at the heart of this build-out, taking ownership of how tax credit risk gets structured, priced and negotiated. That means working through tax opinions, deal memoranda and diligence packs to get comfortable with how a project qualifies for its credits and where the exposure really sits — transferability, recapture, basis, that sort of thing. You'll be the main point of contact for brokers and advisors from first submission through to signed terms, drafting and negotiating indications, wording and binders alongside the carrier, and digging into the trickier or more novel positions yourself before taking a view to senior underwriters.

Beyond the deal work, there's room to help build the underwriting approach itself — guidelines, submission standards, pricing — while working closely with brokers, tax equity players, transfer marketplaces and the wider underwriting and data team.

You'll likely have come up through a tax practice at a major accounting firm, a tax equity or tax attorney background, or time already spent underwriting or broking tax insurance, with a solid grasp of how credits get monetised through structures like partnership flips, sale-leasebacks or direct transfers — a JD, CPA or LLM helps but isn't essential. What counts more is having actually formed a view on tax risk in M&A, tax equity or credit transfer deals before, and being able to turn that into a decision you'd stand behind, plus a comfort negotiating terms with counter parties who know exactly what they're asking for.

The role is hybrid and can based in several locations across the US.
