Senior Credit Officer – Commercial Real Estate & CMBS

We are partnering with a global financial institution seeking an experienced senior credit-risk professional to join its Real Assets Credit Risk team, with a primary focus on U.S. Commercial Real Estate financing and CMBS.

This individual will independently assess complex transactions, approve or recommend credit exposures, monitor portfolio performance, and contribute to the firm’s credit policies and broader risk appetite. The position also offers the opportunity to expand into other real asset classes, including project finance.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess the creditworthiness of counter parties and the underlying real estate assets being financed or traded.
• Analyze historical performance, transaction structures, collateral, market conditions, and other key credit-risk factors.
• Approve or recommend transactions based on proposed credit limits, exposure levels, and tenors, documenting recommendations for final decision.
• Validate obligor risk ratings, LGD parameters, and other relevant credit metrics.
• Monitor the credit quality of the portfolio, identify deteriorating exposures, and participate in quarterly watchlist reviews.
• Track credit and market developments across individual real estate asset classes.
• Support portfolio management, governance, regulatory, and senior risk management reporting.
• Contribute to credit policies, portfolio limits, financing guidelines, and the firm’s overall risk appetite.
• Participate in the assessment of new business initiatives, products, and financing structures.
• Partner effectively with business lines, Legal, Compliance, Portfolio Management, and other Risk teams.

Key Requirements

• 10+ years of credit-risk, lending, or related experience covering the U.S. Commercial Real Estate and CMBS markets.
• Demonstrated experience approving credit exposures or providing formal recommendations on complex financing transactions.
• Broad understanding of the risks affecting Commercial Real Estate, with specific expertise in credit and collateral risk.
• Experience managing portfolio exposures, monitoring collateral performance, and identifying deteriorating credits.
• Strong knowledge of obligor risk ratings, LGD parameters, credit limits, and other financial and risk metrics.
• Good understanding of the U.S. market and applicable regulatory practices.
• Strong analytical judgment and the ability to independently assess complex transactions and processes.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate credit decisions clearly to senior stakeholders.
• Strong collaboration skills across Risk, the business, Legal, Compliance, and other control functions.
• Interest in expanding into other real asset classes, including project finance.
• Working knowledge of French is advantageous but not required.

The role requires a highly analytical and commercially aware credit professional who can form independent judgments, communicate recommendations clearly, and operate effectively under pressure.
