As a Member of Technical Staff, Pricing & Risk at Testudo, you'll help develop the frameworks we use to price and manage frontier risks created by artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and other emerging technologies.

Our research team builds the underlying risk models. You own what happens next: challenging them from actuarial and insurance first principles, turning them into prices we can bind against, determining how risks should accumulate across the portfolio, and developing stress scenarios for risks where historical insurance experience may be limited or non-existent.

• Reviewing, challenging, and validating the frequency and severity models our research team builds, then turning them into prices we can put on a slip.

• Building pricing models for new classes of risk with limited historical insurance data.

• Developing realistic disaster scenarios and stress tests for novel risks, including correlated and systemic loss events.

• Modeling accumulation, dependency, concentration, and tail risk across the portfolio.

• Setting and actively managing portfolio caps, exposure limits, and risk appetite.

• Stress testing pricing assumptions and determining how sensitive portfolio performance is to model uncertainty.

• Translating technical risk estimates into pricing, underwriting, and portfolio decisions.

• Are a trained actuary with deep experience in insurance pricing, portfolio management, specialty insurance, or reinsurance.

• Have worked as a pricing actuary, portfolio actuary, specialty lines actuary, reinsurance actuary, actuarial pricing lead, or in another role involving ownership of technically complex insurance risk.

• Have built pricing models from scratch, particularly for new products, emerging risks, specialty classes, or areas with limited historical loss data.

• Understand frequency and severity modeling, dependency, correlation, and tail risk.

• Have managed accumulation, concentration risk, exposure limits and portfolio caps, and worked extensively with realistic disaster scenarios and portfolio-level loss modeling.

• Are comfortable applying actuarial judgment to highly uncertain risks created by rapidly evolving technologies.

• Use code to build quantitative analyses, pricing models, or model prototypes. This is a plus rather than a requirement.

• Need credible historical loss experience before you will price something.

• See every new risk through the lens of an established line. We are delighted to tell you that generative AI liability is not cyber.

• Want to hand a model to someone else to implement.

• Prefer remote or hybrid. We are in the office five days a week, and we work long days.

• $150,000 - $250,000 base + meaningful equity.

• We run a single band across every role at this level. We would rather pay the same for different kinds of hard problem than pretend we can rank them.

• New York. In-office, five days a week.

• We are able to sponsor visas for this role. Relocation support available.
