Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Director of Financial Aid. The Assistant Director is responsible for the organization, coordination, and implementation of financial aid operations and workflows within the Offices of Admissions and Financial Aid at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine. This position dual reports to the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine.

The role supports financial aid administration, student counseling, compliance, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration across both schools.

Job Responsibilities Financial Aid Administration
  • Manage financial aid packaging and awarding for admitted and returning students at both schools.
  • Coordinate with Washington Square departments to ensure packaging and disbursement processes are aligned with university procedures.
  • Support budget development, aid adjustments, budget appeals, and related financial aid processes.
  • Determine student eligibility for available aid programs, including federal loan programs, where applicable.
Student Advising and Financial Literacy
  • Serve as a primary resource for admitted and current students regarding financial aid, budgeting, borrowing, billing-related questions, updates to aid packages, and more.
  • Respond to student queries in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide individualized counseling to all students on financial aid and indebtedness. Provide exit counseling for graduating students to discuss loan repayment options and strategies for future budgeting.
  • Ensure timely, student-centered communication through appropriate channels.
Compliance and Policy
  • Maintain alignment with institutional, federal, state, and university financial aid policies and regulations in partnership with Washington Square Financial Aid.
  • Maintain and update financial aid office policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with relevant partners to support Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) compliance and related processes.
  • Participate in professional development and relevant professional associations to remain current on best practices.
Data, Reporting, and Process Improvement
  • Collect, analyze, and prepare reports for internal leadership and external organizations, including AAMC, U.S. News & World Report, and LCME.
  • Partner with Washington Square and internal stakeholders to support reporting, surveys, and analysis related to affordability, financial literacy, and operational effectiveness.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service delivery.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Admissions, Registrar, Finance, Housing, Bursar, Development, Student Affairs, Medical Education, Marketing/Communications, and Washington Square Financial Aid on shared processes and initiatives.
  • Ensure website content related to financial aid is accurate, current, and appropriately approved.
  • Support communications related to financial aid information in alignment with institutional guidelines.
Project and Operational Support
  • Support new and ongoing projects for admissions and financial aid leadership across both schools.
