Risk Manager/Analyst, Credit Analyst, Underwriter, Financial Analyst
Join a senior credit risk team responsible for evaluating and approving complex commercial real estate financing transactions across a diverse portfolio of real estate assets. This role combines transaction underwriting, portfolio management, credit approvals, risk rating validation, and ongoing monitoring of asset and counter party performance.
Key responsibilities include conducting detailed credit analysis, assessing transaction structures, evaluating collateral and market risks, monitoring portfolio performance, identifying emerging credit concerns, and partnering with business, legal, compliance, and risk stakeholders on new financing initiatives. The position also contributes to credit policy development, risk appetite discussions, and regulatory reporting.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in commercial real estate credit risk, real estate lending, CMBS, or a related field, with strong underwriting, analytical, and decision-making skills. Experience evaluating complex real estate transactions, managing credit exposures, and working within a regulated financial environment is highly desirable. Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting are essential.
- Credit assessment of the counter party and underlying asset(s) being traded/financed.
- Provide detailed explanation of the counter party considered, including analysis of historical performance of existing activities, highlight the key risk factors.
- Provide an approval or recommendation for approval based upon the proposed limit(s) and tenor(s) being considered, document recommendation for final decision.
- Validation of Obligor Risk Ratings, Basle II parameters (LGDs), other financial metrics.
- Ongoing monitoring of the credit quality of the portfolio (portfolio review and early detection of deteriorating credits). Participation in the quarterly watch list review process.
- Track credit and market trends on individual asset classes.
- Assist the Portfolio Management and Governance team in the preparation of reporting for RISQ management and Regulators.
- Contribution to Bank’s credit policy guidelines and overall risk appetite.
- Participate in setting the global risk appetite for financing initiatives.
- Assessment of SGCIB new business initiatives (white papers, New Product Committees, business rules, etc.)
Qualifications:
- 10+ years Credit Risk or similar role in U.S. Commercial Real Estate and CMBS markets with clear opportunity to expand into other Real Asset scopes including project finance.
- Broad knowledge of risks impacting Real Estate with specific expertise in credit risk
- Must have good knowledge of the US Market and regulatory practices
- Must have strong analytical and solid judgment skills with a proven ability to understand complex transactions / processes
- Demonstrated problem solving ability and capacity to work autonomously
- Must have a strong ability to manage multiple projects and issues simultaneously
- Strong collaboration skills required both across the risk division and with other partners such as business lines, legal and compliance teams
- Results focused, responsive, with strong strategic capabilities in terms of decision making and risk assessment
- Good English language writing skills, working knowledge of French is a plus
- Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines. Effective management of priorities
