Director, ECM Banker, Investment Banking (China Securities New Co) Job Overview

The Banker is a senior level position responsible for assisting clients in raising funds in the capital markets, as well as providing strategic advisory services for mergers, acquisitions and other types of financial transactions in coordination with the Institutional Banking team. The Banker also serves as an intermediary in trading for clients. The overall objective of this role is to act as strategic advisor to our clients by formulating investment strategies and raising capital for clients.

Responsibilities
  • Leverage past investment banking or related experience to enhance Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) execution and capital raising capabilities and contribute to building Citi's franchise
  • Meet revenue and other financial goals by establishing and maintaining a pipeline of episodic deals
  • Ensure that proposed client solutions meet or exceed internal risk and return standards, including stringent ethical standards
  • Anticipate future changes in the marketplace
  • Identify and anticipate all types of risks (e.g. industry, portfolio, diversification, sovereign, commercial, currency, etc.)
  • Serve as a mentor to junior Bankers, execute staffing models that support business needs and career trajectories for junior staff
  • Build client relationships by providing sophisticated financial solutions tailored to the clients’ needs and acting as a content provider on market trends
  • Serve as the expert on regulatory, financial and complex strategic issues relating to corporate finance transactions
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
  • Engage in the buildout of China equity capital markets team and design internal deal process, policy and procedures
  • Lead origination and execution of global ECM transactions with a strong focus on China A-share transactions; lead and manage end-to-end execution of ECM transactions including A-share IPOs, follow-on offerings, rights issues, convertible bonds, and equity-linked products on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE), Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE), and STAR Market (科创板)
  • Drive origination of new ECM mandates through proactive client engagement, sector expertise, and market intelligence
  • Coordinate cross-border equity transactions including H-share listings, A+H dual listings, and HKEX IPOs for China-based issuers
  • Oversee preparation of prospectuses, offering memoranda, regulatory filings, and investor marketing materials to the highest standard of accuracy and compliance
  • 10+ years of relevant ECM origination and execution experience with a deep understanding of China A-share market as well as good knowledge of global capital markets
  • Solid understanding of local financial markets and ECM product knowledge
  • Preferably also equipped with DCM product knowledge
  • Familiarity with CSRC/Exchanges/SAC rules
  • Experience of covering local institutional investors
  • Secure and maintain all necessary CSRC licenses (or any other licenses / qualifications as required) for carrying out securities and other regulated activities
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English
  • Preference for HK SFC Type 6 licenses / qualifications
Recommended Qualifications
  • 15+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in people management
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or closely related areas of Business Administration preferred
  • Master's degree in Business Administration preferred
  • Experience working in an investment banking institution(s)
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated ability to remain unbiased in a diverse working environment
  • Series 79 and 63 licenses
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master’s degree preferred
