Overview:

This Vice President-level Credit Officer opportunity sits within the Real Estate Credit team of a well-established global financial institution, offering coverage of a diversified portfolio spanning REITs, homebuilders, and non-recourse finance across multiple sub-sectors and niche markets. The role carries meaningful credit authority - reviewing and recommending on credit applications, engaging directly with external stakeholders, and serving as a senior liaison between branches, agencies, and credit departments.

With strong visibility to senior and executive management and exciting career growth prospects, it's an ideal fit for a credit-trained real estate professional with 6+ years of banking experience who combines deep sector knowledge, strong financial modeling capabilities, and proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior officers and drive sound credit decisions independently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and assess credit applications from branches and agencies; provide effective analysis of creditworthiness, loan structure, risk/return, and the applicant's operating, financial, and industry profiles including historical P&L performance, financial condition, and cash flow
  • Build comprehensive financial models including projection, enterprise valuation, recovery, and other cash flow models; comment on the reasonableness of assumptions across both management and internal sensitivity cases
  • Compare prospective borrowers to peer sets and summarize key industry trends across REITs, homebuilders, and non-recourse finance sectors
  • Prepare accurate, clear, well-organized, and complete written credit opinions with recommendations for approval, decline, or counter; discuss potential changes to credit structure or approval conditions with branches and agencies
  • Recommend appropriate risk ratings for each customer and transaction as required; conduct comprehensive annual reviews and quarterly reviews as needed
  • Directly engage in external meetings, presentations, and events with syndicate banks, rating agencies, clients, and law firms in coordination with coverage bankers and product partners
  • Proactively monitor and assess assigned borrowers and industries using market data including share price, EDF, CDS, loan secondary prices and other relevant indices; report findings and credit impacts to senior officers in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with credit standards, policies, and requirements; play a strong management role with branches and agencies to ensure policy understanding and adherence
  • Act as liaison between branches, agencies and other credit departments; gather information on problem customers and exchange views with senior management regarding credit applications, monitoring, and policy matters
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills and work effectively with junior credit officers to support their development
