Overview:This Vice President-level Credit Officer opportunity sits within the Real Estate Credit team of a well-established global financial institution, offering coverage of a diversified portfolio spanning REITs, homebuilders, and non-recourse finance across multiple sub-sectors and niche markets. The role carries meaningful credit authority - reviewing and recommending on credit applications, engaging directly with external stakeholders, and serving as a senior liaison between branches, agencies, and credit departments.
With strong visibility to senior and executive management and exciting career growth prospects, it's an ideal fit for a credit-trained real estate professional with 6+ years of banking experience who combines deep sector knowledge, strong financial modeling capabilities, and proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior officers and drive sound credit decisions independently.
- Review and assess credit applications from branches and agencies; provide effective analysis of creditworthiness, loan structure, risk/return, and the applicant's operating, financial, and industry profiles including historical P&L performance, financial condition, and cash flow
- Build comprehensive financial models including projection, enterprise valuation, recovery, and other cash flow models; comment on the reasonableness of assumptions across both management and internal sensitivity cases
- Compare prospective borrowers to peer sets and summarize key industry trends across REITs, homebuilders, and non-recourse finance sectors
- Prepare accurate, clear, well-organized, and complete written credit opinions with recommendations for approval, decline, or counter; discuss potential changes to credit structure or approval conditions with branches and agencies
- Recommend appropriate risk ratings for each customer and transaction as required; conduct comprehensive annual reviews and quarterly reviews as needed
- Directly engage in external meetings, presentations, and events with syndicate banks, rating agencies, clients, and law firms in coordination with coverage bankers and product partners
- Proactively monitor and assess assigned borrowers and industries using market data including share price, EDF, CDS, loan secondary prices and other relevant indices; report findings and credit impacts to senior officers in a timely manner
- Ensure compliance with credit standards, policies, and requirements; play a strong management role with branches and agencies to ensure policy understanding and adherence
- Act as liaison between branches, agencies and other credit departments; gather information on problem customers and exchange views with senior management regarding credit applications, monitoring, and policy matters
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills and work effectively with junior credit officers to support their development
