Financial Analyst, Financial Reporting
Altana is the network for trusted trade. Our AI-powered product network empowers governments and businesses to build a more resilient and secure global economy while keeping trade flowing.
The Opportunity at AltanaWe are looking for a Principal Financial Analyst to serve as the dedicated Finance Business Partner to Altana’s Technology organization — spanning R&D, Implementation, Product, IT, and Info Sec. In this high-impact role, you will be the financial engine that keeps our largest cost center running efficiently and transparently, translating complex technical spend — from cloud infrastructure and AI tooling to headcount and vendor contracts — into clear, board-ready insight.
You will sit at the intersection of finance and engineering, partnering daily with senior leaders across the Tech org to drive rigorous budget management, strategic procurement, and performance accountability. This role reports directly to the VP of Finance and is an exceptional opportunity for a data-savvy, technically curious finance professional who thrives in fast-moving environments and wants to build something genuinely best-in-class.
Role
- Own the monthly budget forecast, business metrics, and variance reporting for the full Technology organization, delivering timely and accurate financial insight to Tech leadership each period
- Serve as the primary financial advisor to Tech leaders on all investment decisions — building driver-based models, evaluating headcount requests (new hires, backfills, and contractors) against the Board-approved cost envelope, and assessing ad hoc business requests for alignment with approved budget parameters
- Own cloud infrastructure financial management end-to-end: forecast cloud spend across all providers, govern a resource tagging taxonomy for accurate cost attribution, and manage a hybrid commitment discount strategy to optimize cost efficiency
- Build and manage the financial framework for all AI and LLM spend — including token-level unit economics, AI cost attribution by team and product, and monthly reporting on AI spend efficiency versus business outcomes
- Translate cloud and AI infrastructure actuals from billing systems into GAAP-compliant accounting entries, working cross-functionally with Accounting and Cloud Engineering to bridge cloud invoices and the general ledger
- Lead procurement and vendor management for the Tech org: maintain a centralized contract inventory, manage renewal calendars 90–120 days in advance, negotiate cloud and SaaS agreements (ELAs, committed use discounts, renewals), and drive SaaS rationalization by identifying and eliminating overlapping or underutilized tools
- Build and maintain Board-level Technology scorecards tracking performance versus plan — including headcount, cloud and AI spend, R&D as a percentage of revenue, and key delivery indicators — and develop a pod-based financial view to support ROI analysis by engineering pod
- Track and report engineering org ratios (Software Engineer to PM, Software Engineer to Designer) and produce executive financial narratives that connect R&D investment to business outcomes for board presentations, investor materials, and quarterly business reviews
- 5-8+ years of progressive FP&A or finance business partnering experience at a high-growth technology or SaaS company, with direct experience embedded with R&D, Engineering, or Product organizations; AI company experience is a plus
- Strong financial modeling skills in Excel and at least one EPM/planning platform; SQL proficiency to pull and analyze data independently from a data warehouse is a plus
- Excellent communication and influencing skills: you translate complex financial data into clear executive narratives, engage credibly with engineering and product leaders, and push back constructively on decisions that fall outside approved parameters
- Active and enthusiastic user of AI tools in your day-to-day workflow — for modeling, analysis, automation, or productivity — with a genuine commitment to building AI-augmented finance workflows
- Familiarity with ERP, CRM, and HRIS/workforce planning tools
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field;…
