Our client, a leading multi-strategy hedge fund with a marquee systematic equity trading business, is seeking a Business Strategy professional to join their team in New York. This is a high-visibility role partnering directly with senior leadership on the strategic priorities of the systematic equities platform, spanning business development, operations, product strategy, and human capital. The ideal candidate brings a strong analytical foundation, exposure to systematic/quantitative trading or asset management, and the ability to operate as a trusted thought partner to portfolio managers, traders, and business heads.
The Business Strategy team acts as an internal strategic advisory function for the systematic equity trading business, driving initiatives that shape how the business grows, operates, and competes. This individual will work cross-functionally with trading, technology, operations, and senior management to identify opportunities, solve complex business problems, and help execute against the platform's strategic roadmap.
Key Responsibilities- Partner with senior leadership on strategic initiatives across the systematic equity trading business, including business development, capital planning, and competitive positioning
- Drive operational improvement projects, identifying inefficiencies and implementing scalable solutions across the trading lifecycle
- Support product strategy, including evaluation of new trading strategies, capacity considerations, and market opportunities
- Contribute to human capital initiatives, including organizational design, headcount planning, and talent strategy for the business
- Conduct market research, competitive benchmarking, and financial/data analysis to inform senior leadership decision-making
- Prepare materials, presentations, and analyses for internal stakeholders, investment committees, and firm leadership
- Manage cross-functional projects end-to-end, coordinating across trading, technology, risk, legal, and operations teams
- Track industry trends, competitor moves, and regulatory developments relevant to the systematic equity space
- 4-8 years of relevant experience, ideally including a mix of investment banking, management consulting, strategy, or a strategy/business management function within a hedge fund, asset manager, or financial institution
- Prior exposure to systematic trading, quantitative investing, or electronic equity markets is a strong plus
- Bachelor's degree required, top academic credentials preferred; MBA or advanced degree a plus but not required
- Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills, with strong command of Excel/PowerPoint; familiarity with SQL or Python a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex issues into clear recommendations for senior audiences
- Demonstrated project management skills and comfort operating with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Strong executive presence and ability to build credibility with senior stakeholders and traders
- High intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and a collaborative, low-ego approach
