DescriptionWe are seeking a Senior Equity Research Associate or VP to join our U.S. Chemicals team. The associate will be an integral member of the team, will work closely with the senior analyst and two other team members to develop and market all equity research products. The role requires strong analytical / critical thinking skills, solid communication skills (with a drive for client interaction) a passion for the stock market, keen attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.
The work environment involves collaboration, co-ordination and a shared knowledge base with the analyst and rest of the team but equally values independence, initiative, idea generation and a sense of ownership for the work.
Ideal CandidateOur ideal candidate is fully licensed and must have a minimum of three years equity research experience in the Chemicals space. You have a strong financial background and a desire to help create, launch and support new research. Strong accounting and finance skills, strong communication skills (both verbal for client interactions as well as written) a passion for the stock market and the ability to work on a fast-paced equity research team are critical.
Responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to:
- Building and maintaining detailed company models (IS/BS/CF)
- Analyzing financial statements and news related to industry coverage
- Analyze company filings (10-K, 10-Q, earnings releases) and company transcripts
- Writing equity research reports and over time, formulating investment theses
- Participation in site visits and management meetings
- Maintaining and analyzing industry data
- Communicating investment recommendations to internal and external clients
- Collaborate in developing tools and processes to gather industry and company-related news that can then be disseminated to clients as one-off products or incorporated in the group’s normal research product
- Work to establish industry, regulatory and political relationships to help better predict and/or handicap industry trends or company-related events
Candidates must have at least three years of equity research experience
. Prior industry experience in the commodity or specialty chemicals sectors is not required but is a positive. Candidates must demonstrate a clear and proven track record of achievement throughout their education and career. Other necessary attributes include:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and comfort managing various priorities
- Client service mindset and ability to prioritize client needs with accuracy
- The ability to interact professionally with company management teams and clients (analysts and portfolio managers)
- A keen interest in and demonstrated understanding of Equity Research
- A positive attitude, intellectual curiosity, the ability to learn quickly and strong attention to detail
- Superior work ethic, self-motivated and the ability to work both collaboratively as well as independently
- Ability to systematically manage a heavy workload and meet stringent deadlines
- Flexibility to work irregular and extended hours
- Solid technology skills with robust knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bloomberg and/or Fact Set
- Demonstrated use of AI in the workplace
- CFA Charter or working towards the CFA designation is a plus
Bachelor’s degree is required. A post-secondary degree in a related field of study is a plus. U.S. only.
