Director of Financial Planning and Analysis; Multi Strategy Hedge Fund

Our client is a highly successful, privately held financial markets business with a substantial international presence. The firm has experienced sustained growth across its operations, infrastructure and employee base, creating a need for greater visibility into financial performance, resource allocation and long-term planning.

This appointment represents the firm's first dedicated FP&A hire. The successful candidate will be given the mandate to establish the function, introduce a more structured approach to planning and analysis, and ultimately build a high-quality team around them.

This is a rare opportunity to create an FP&A capability from the ground up within a sophisticated, data-rich organisation. The role will suit someone who combines strong technical ability with the commercial judgement and credibility to advise senior decision-makers.

Working closely with the CFO and senior leadership, you will take ownership of the firm's financial planning and performance-management framework. Initially, the position will be highly hands-on, with responsibility for understanding the organisation, consolidating existing information and determining where finance can provide greater insight.

Over time, you will develop the processes, systems and team required to support an increasingly complex global business.

Design and implement the firm's budgeting, forecasting and long-range planning processes.

Build a comprehensive understanding of the organisation's cost base, operating model and key financial drivers.

Produce forward-looking analysis that supports decisions around investment, hiring, infrastructure and resource allocation.

Develop management reporting, financial models and performance metrics for the CFO and wider leadership group.

Partner with business and functional heads to improve financial accountability and planning.

Bring together financial and operational data to identify trends, risks and opportunities.

Establish scalable FP&A processes, controls and reporting standards.

Evaluate and introduce appropriate planning, reporting and data-visualisation tools.

Recruit and develop an FP&A team as the function expands.

Support strategic projects and other high-priority initiatives led by the CFO.

Significant experience within FP&A, strategic finance, business finance or a related discipline.

A track record of building, transforming or materially improving a financial planning capability.

Strong commercial instincts, with the ability to move beyond reporting numbers and explain what they mean for the business.

Exceptional financial modelling and analytical skills.

Comfortable working with large, complex and sometimes imperfect datasets.

Able to operate independently and create structure in an environment where the FP&A framework is still being developed.

Credible and confident when working with senior executives and demanding internal stakeholders.

Experience with in financial services, investment management, trading, technology or another complex global organisation would be advantageous.

CPA, CFA, MBA or another relevant professional qualification is welcome but not required.

Unlike a conventional FP&A position, this is not an opportunity to inherit an established calendar of reports and processes. The successful candidate will determine what best-in-class FP&A should look like for the firm and will have the backing, access and resources to build it.
