A highly respected private holding company and family office is seeking a Tax Manager to join its long-standing tax team in Midtown Manhattan. The organization has significant and diversified holdings across manufacturing, mining, metal production, and defense-related businesses.

The Tax Manager will work closely with the Tax Director and VP of Tax and will play an important role in overseeing the organization’s tax function. Strong opportunity for the successful candidate to grow with the team and assume increasing responsibility over time.
Responsibilities- Oversee the organization’s federal, state, and international tax compliance process, which is primarily outsourced to a national firm.
- Serve as a key point of contact with external tax advisors, reviewing tax filings and ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all applicable requirements.
- Support tax planning initiatives across a diverse portfolio of domestic and international businesses and investments.
- Prepare and review tax forecasts, projections, and financial models to support business and investment decisions.
- Research and analyze complex federal, state, and international tax matters and communicate findings and recommendations to senior management.
- Assist with tax planning related to corporations, partnerships, investments, and other business structures.
- Work closely with the Tax Director and VP of Tax on tax strategy, planning, compliance, and special projects.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and regulations and evaluate their potential impact on the organization.
- Coordinate with accounting, legal, investment, and business personnel on tax-related matters.
- Assist with IRS and state tax inquiries, audits, and other tax matters as needed.
- Prepare clear, well-organized written analyses and memoranda for senior leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or advanced tax degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive tax experience.
- Strong experience with S-Corporations and C-Corporations, including both domestic and international tax matters.
- Experience in a private company, family office, closely held business, investment organization, or public accounting environment is highly desirable.
- Strong technical tax knowledge with the ability to research and analyze complex issues independently.
- Experience with tax forecasting, modeling, and planning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong reading comprehension and the ability to clearly articulate complex tax matters are particularly important. Candidates will be asked to provide a writing sample as part of the interview process.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Proactive, resourceful, and comfortable taking ownership of projects rather than simply executing assigned tasks.
- Knowledge of trusts, estates, and high-net-worth individual taxation is a plus.
- 5 days per week in the Midtown Manhattan office (Summer Fridays from May to August)
