Position Overview

Teton Trust Company is seeking an experienced and strategic Vice President of Finance to join its New York, NY office. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading the Company's finance functions including financial strategy, planning, and reporting, and overseeing accounting operations, internal controls, and treasury activities. The position requires strong analytical and leadership skills, sound judgment on matters involving regulatory and fiduciary obligations, and the capacity to manage a finance team supporting a regulated trust company.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy & Leadership

  • Partner with the CFO to develop and execute the company's financial strategy in support of its fiduciary business objectives.
  • Lead and develop finance department staff and accounting personnel in other offices.
  • Serve as a principal advisor to the CFO and executive leadership on financial performance, risk exposure, and strategic opportunities.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Direct the annual budgeting process and multi-year financial forecasting for the company.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget, analyze variances, and recommend corrective action.
  • Develop financial models supporting strategic initiatives, new service lines, or entity growth.

Core Financial Operations

Oversee all core financial operations, including:

  • Cash Management:
    Banking relationships, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and liquidity planning.
  • Payroll & Tax Compliance:
    Supervision of payroll processing, employment tax filings, and state employment compliance.
  • Billing Operations:
    Direct all billing processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with client contracts and service agreements.
  • Financial Reporting:
    Preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements.
  • Corporate Tax:
    Oversee preparation and timely filing of corporate tax returns, coordinating with external tax advisors as needed.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee preparation of accurate, timely trust client financial statements.
  • Oversee client billing and internal accounting processes.
  • Coordinate the annual external audit and manage the relationship with external auditors.

Internal Controls & Regulatory Coordination

  • Design, implement, and maintain internal controls over financial reporting appropriate to a regulated trust company.
  • Ensure financial systems and controls support the Company's BSA/AML program.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Evaluate and improve financial and accounting systems (e.g., ERP platforms such as Net Suite or Microsoft Dynamics) to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Lead cross-functional projects to implement or optimize finance-related systems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or related roles.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Preferred Skills
  • CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certifications.
  • Experience in in the trust, banking, or fiduciary services industry.
  • Experience managing finance functions across multiple entities or jurisdictions.
