Vice President Finance Officer

Church Pension Group (CPG) is a financial services organization that serves the Episcopal Church, located in Midtown Manhattan. CPG was founded in 1917 to provide pension benefits to eligible clergy of the Episcopal Church. Since then, its mission has expanded to include life and disability insurance, health benefits, property & casualty insurance, and publishing.

The VP Finance Officer is responsible for optimizing the organization’s financial performance through integrated business finance, capital planning, liquidity management, balance sheet strategy, and financial governance. This leader partners closely with executive leadership and business units to ensure financial decisions maximize enterprise value while maintaining strong capital and liquidity positions.

The role serves as the steward of the organization’s financial health through disciplined financial management and regulatory compliance. It also supports the calculation and financial evaluation of reinsurance programs, including their capital, liquidity, and risk-transfer implications.

The VP partners closely with the Business, Actuarial, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), and Accounting teams to translate business strategy and actuarial decisions into cohesive, accurate, and insightful financial analysis and reporting for executive management and the Board of Directors.

• Oversee regulatory capital framework, including capital adequacy, and stress testing in collaboration with the business and actuarial teams
• Monitor and manage liquidity position to ensure sufficient resources under normal and stressed conditions in collaboration with the claims and investment teams
• Develop and maintain capital forecasting models in collaboration with FP&A and the business

• Provide financial oversight and assess the reasonableness of reserves established by the Actuarial team
• Support financial analysis over reinsurance strategy, including structuring, placement, and performance monitoring
• Evaluate reinsurance programs to understand capital impact and risk transfer

• Provide support with all regulatory capital, liquidity, and reporting requirements
• Oversee preparation and review of statutory filings and regulatory submissions in collaboration with the accounting teams
• Serve as a liaison with regulators on financial strength, solvency, and capital-related matters
• Monitor emerging regulatory developments and assess impact on the organization

• Collaborate with FP&A to deliver integrated financial insights and analysis for senior management and the Board
• Partner with Accounting to ensure alignment between statutory, GAAP, and management reporting perspectives
• Support Board materials and executive presentations related to capital, liquidity, and financial strength
• Enhance governance, controls, and documentation around capital and regulatory processes
• Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires regular in-person, on-site interaction with colleagues, both for purposes of relationship building and meaningful collaboration.

• Deep understanding of capital frameworks, liquidity management, and regulatory environments
• Strong knowledge of statutory accounting and financial reporting principles
• Strategic thinker with the ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear insights
• Excellent collaboration and influencing skills across finance functions
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Strong communication and presentation skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred)
• 10+ years of experience in finance, with significant exposure to capital management, regulatory reporting, or treasury within financial services (P&C insurance experience strongly preferred)
• 3+yrs managerial experience required.
• CPA required
