The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC), Law Division, is seeking a highly motivated, entry‑level Investigator interested in developing a career in investigations, surveillance, and fact‑finding. This role is ideal for recent graduates, early‑career professionals, or candidates with internships or limited experience related to criminal justice or investigative work. This position supports the Agency’s internal disciplinary program under Section 75 of the New York Civil Service Law.
Extensive prior investigative experience is not expected; training will be provided. Successful candidates will demonstrate curiosity, professionalism, strong observational skills, and enthusiasm for working both in the office and extensively in the field.
- Assist with internal investigations involving employee conduct and policy compliance
- Conduct fact‑finding interviews and assist in gathering documentation
- Perform field work, including observations, site visits, and service of legal process
- Support surveillance‑related activities as assigned
- Prepare clear, accurate written reports and summaries
- Maintain investigative case files and electronic records
- Utilize agency computer systems for case tracking and data entry
- Assist with administrative hearings and provide testimony when required
- Review referrals and allegations to determine appropriate follow‑up actions

INVESTIGATOR (EMPLOYEE DISCIPL - 31163
Minimum Qualifications- A four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full‑time experience in one or more of the following fields: accounting, auditing, correction administration, criminal justice administration and planning, forensic science and security, or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college.
- Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
- Entry‑level position: candidates are strongly encouraged.
- Valid New York State Driver’s License (required).
- Confident, experienced driver comfortable driving regularly for field assignments throughout NYC.
- Relevant coursework, internship, or limited professional experience in criminal justice, investigations, surveillance, security or compliance, law enforcement support roles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and strong documentation skills.
- Comfortable working independently in the field and collaboratively in an office setting.
- Flexibility to work early mornings or late evenings when required.

Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. Discuss with an agency representative at the time of interview.
