RRM - Highways and Sewers Inspector

*** CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENT IN THE TITLE OF HIGHWAYS AND SEWERS INSPECTOR OR REACHABLE ON CIVIL SERVICE LIST (EXAM # 1025).***

The Division of Roadway Repair and Maintenance is responsible for ensuring the appropriate maintenance of NYC streets, roads, and arterials. This undertaking involves planning, monitoring, compliance, and enforcement. The Highways and Sewers Inspector duties will:

• Perform technical work in the inspection of construction, repair, and maintenance of roads, sewers, appurtenances, pavements, and sidewalks.
• Inspect roadway conditions for marathons, parade routes, and street fairs.
• Coordinate inspections with HIQA, DEP, DOB, and similar units or departments.
• Investigate complaints, report findings, and forward conditions to the proper authorities, construction and utility companies.
• Inspect and resolve issues of concern that arise from telephone calls or written correspondence from community boards, elected officials, residents, and businesses.
• Use the Siebel system to retrieve complaints and respond with resolution.
• Respond to all assigned arts complaints.
• Use the Pavement Works system to obtain details on permit activity.
• Maintain records including wear and tear tracking, delayed/skipped paving areas, joint repairs, special event repairs, and maps; prepare comprehensive reports.
• Conduct pre‑ and post‑inspections for milling and paving locations.
• Conduct pre‑inspections for paving eligibility.
• Update Pavement Works system with pothole repair reports.
• May be required to appear as a witness in court.
• Drive a passenger vehicle to and from work assignments.
• May train Apprentice Inspectors.

40 Hours Per Week

• Five years full‑time satisfactory experience in the construction and/or repair of roads and sewers; or
• Three years of full‑time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above plus any combination of college education and/or experience described in "1" above to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience. Six months of experience will be credited for each 15 semester credits of college education leading to a bachelor's or associate degree in civil engineering or civil engineering technology from an accredited college or university;
  
  or
• Satisfactory completion of the New York City Department of Transportation apprenticeship program for the Apprentice Inspector (Highways and Sewers).

A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions or encumbrances. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
