Overview of the Position Come join one of the most active and influential federal courts in the United States. The U.S. Probation Office for the Southern District of New York is looking for multiple Probation Services Technicians. In this position, the incumbents will play a vital role in supporting the Probation Office. Responsibilities include acting as the liaison between the Bureau of Prisons, U.S. Attorney’s Office, the court, and other relative agencies.

Receiving and processing new cases for the commencement of supervision. Managing case files and reports and monitoring inactive cases that have been detained with other agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Act as a liaison and point of contact between the Bureau of Prisons, U.S. Attorney's Office, the court, and any other relative agencies related to the assignment of presentence investigations, prerelease investigations, and out-of-district violations.
  • Serve as the point-of-contact for various local, state, and federal agencies to collect and record information to assist with investigations.
  • Receive and process new cases for the commencement of supervision.
  • Monitor cases for compliance with supervision conditions and notify the officer and/or Court of matters needing attention.
  • Update information in the Probation Automated Case Tracking System (PACTS).
  • Prepare and update case files and reports (investigations and supervision) at the direction of an officer and in accordance with established policies and practices.
  • Monitor inactive cases that have been detained with other agencies or have absconded from supervision.
  • Participate in on-going training and development in order to remain current of advanced techniques.
  • Assist with general office coverage duties such as but not limited to receiving and directing telephonic or electronic communications, drug testing, and other general clerical work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position applicants must be a high school graduate. To qualify for CL 23 you must have two years of general experience. To qualify for CL 24 to CL 25, you must also have one year of specialized experience.

General Experience

Specialized Experience

Progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience requiring the regular and recurring application of clerical procedures that demonstrate the ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, or laws and involve the routine use of specialized terminology and automated software and equipment for word processing, data entry or report generation. Such experience is commonly encountered in law firms, legal counsel offices, banking and credit firms, educational institutions, social service organizations, insurance companies, real estate and title offices, and corporate headquarters or human resources/payroll operations.
