Job Summary
The Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City government’s chief financial agency. OMB’s staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayor’s expense and capital budgets, which fund the services and activities of approximately 90 City agencies and entities.
We work with the City’s 59 Community Boards by overseeing the boards’ operating budgets, providing technical budget assistance, monitoring personal service and other expenditures, and updating their spending plans after each budget release. We also help implement the Charter’s mandate to involve the boards in the budget process through meetings, consultations, geographic‑based budget documents, and technical assistance throughout the budget cycle.

Work with the boards to monitor their operating budgets, assist full‑time staff to analyze and process changes within their budgets—including personnel changes, updated spending plans, and office lease issues. Prepare for the FY 2027 Borough Level Budget Consultations, help publish the Fiscal Year 2026 Adopted Budget Register, and assist in the electronic submission of community board priorities for Fiscal Year 2027.
An OMB Community Board intern gains a sound understanding of civic engagement theory and practice and the professional contributions required.
Responsibilities- Monitor and analyze community board operating budgets.
- Assist with personnel changes, updated spending plans, and office lease issues.
- Prepare materials for FY 2027 Borough Level Budget Consultations.
- Publish the Fiscal Year 2026 Adopted Budget Register.
- Submit community board priorities electronically for FY 2027.
- Participate in meetings and consultations between community boards and agencies.
- Good computer skills, including extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Professional, and Access databases.
- Interest in the City’s neighborhoods and their issues, problems, and needs.
- Ability to reach out and work with the City’s 59 community boards and their staff.
- Writing, research, and analytical skills.
- Avid interest in city government and neighborhoods.

Graduate College Aides must be currently enrolled in a graduate program and possess strong analytical, quantitative, research, and communication skills; proficiency in MS Word and Excel is required.
Undergraduate College Aides must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and possess strong analytical, research, and communication skills; familiarity with MS Word and Excel is required.
Assignment LevelsFor Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school; employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school; employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in an IT, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school; employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in an IT, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other relevant area, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits.
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half‑time in any week in which classes are in session. Students may be employed full‑time during vacation periods.
Compensation & DurationUndergraduate College Aide: $17.50 per hour.
Graduate College Aide: $20.00 per hour.
The internship is available during the fall and spring semesters of the 2025‑2026 school year. It is part‑time, with a maximum of 17 hours per week during school sessions. Schedule will be worked out with the selected candidate based on availability. Work must be done during the regular workday, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. – no evenings or weekends.
