The district office of New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin seeks an enthusiastic, motivated, and highly organized full-time Community Liaison and Staff Scheduler. The Community Liaison and Staff Scheduler will oversee community issues, constituent casework, interagency communications, and scheduling coordination with advocacy groups, stakeholders, and other government agencies.
Salary Range$65,000 to $70,000
Key Responsibilities- Monitors and recommends scheduled district and City Hall meetings and outreach opportunities for the Council Member and the office.
- Assist with planning, scheduling, and organizing community events.
- Assess and prioritize incoming meeting requests, assigning staff coverage to balance priorities and constituent needs.
- Communicate with local stakeholders to coordinate and schedule meetings with the Council Member and the office staff.
- Recommend and implement strategies to engage with external stakeholders (including advocates and other elected officials) and internal teams to solve issues affecting the district.
- Casework management and problem solving for constituents on a diverse range of issues, including but not limited to landlord-tenant, education, environmental, transportation, small business, employment, consumer affairs, parks, sanitation, crime and quality of life.
- Track action items and follow-ups from meetings and events to ensure timely responses and continuity across offices.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of issues facing residents of the district.
- Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, elected officials, city agencies, advocacy groups, and council staff.
- Engage constituents through incoming phone calls and emails, in-person visits, events, stakeholder meetings, and community outreach.
- Attend Council, Borough President and City agency budget and legislative briefings and organize accompanying materials.
- Maintains a good working relationship with the Council Member, staff, constituents and local media.
- Manages micro and macro constituent inquiries both in person and virtually.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree and preferred two (2) to three (3) years of experience in government, public affairs, or a related field.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to distill complex issues for general audiences, including in rapid-response situations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including nights, early mornings, and weekends, as required.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with shifting deadlines.
- Ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team and independently, and to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment.
