Permanent, Full Time
- Identify and assist occupational safety hazards; developing, implementing, directing and evaluating employee safety and occupational health programs; identify patron health and safety hazards;
- Develop, implement, direct and evaluate public health and safety programs within the Park Region, including, but not limited to: general risk assessment and hazard abatement, playground safety, water safety program coordination, and concession (food) safety.
- Serve as the Regional Emergency Response Coordinator (“ERC”); identify and assess exposure to natural and man-made hazards; and assist facility and regional managers in developing all Hazard Emergency Action Plans to respond to or recover from these events.
- Act as the primary point of contact within the region for non-police emergency coordination for regional.
- Review regional and facility operations to identify and assess occupational and patron health and safety hazards; develop regional health and safety policies and strategies for implementing these policies; and ensure compliance with occupational, public safety, and health regulations and collective bargaining agreement provisions affecting employee safety and health at the regional level.
- Review recurrent and difficult to control occupational and patron health and safety hazards of varying complexity within geographically dispersed job sites.
- Provide intensive, ongoing training on occupational hazards to reduce or eliminate the likelihood of injuries and illnesses.
- Prepare responses to citations for violations of safety and health regulations.
- Assist the Regional Director with budget development related to the region’s health, safety and.
- Monitor employee and patron accident reports; analyze accidents, injuries and near miss incidents; design, recommend and assist facility managers with implementing modifications to procedures and processes to improve safety; and review emergency response actions to determine if improvements and updates are required.
- Coordinate occupational medical monitoring as required.
- This is a hands‑on position requiring the successful candidate to preform hands on work daily in addition to various administrative functions.
- Review, evaluate, develop and administer Regional occupational and patron health and safety policies and programs, and confirm and develop policies, programs and procedures which conform to sound health and safety practices.
- Provide leadership and support the Regional Office with all Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) cost‑recovery efforts and State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) preparedness programs, as requested, including but not limited to, assisting with the implementation of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS) and Continuity of Operations (COOP) Planning.
- Participate in and support regional park operations efforts throughout the NYC Region including volunteer events, storm response, park projects, and other operational needs as assigned. Foster a culture of collaboration throughout the NYC Region.
