Manhattan Street Maintenance Administration within Roadway Repair & Maintenance (RRM) seeks a City Planner to perform technical work in inspection of construction, repair, and maintenance of roads, sewers, pavements and sidewalks.
Responsibilities include:
- Inspect roadway conditions for marathons, parade routes, and street fairs.
- Coordinate inspections with HIQA, DEP, DOB and similar departments.
- Investigate complaints, report findings and forward conditions to the proper authorities, construction and utility companies.
- Inspect and resolve issues of concern from telephone calls or written correspondence from community boards, elected officials, residents and businesses.
- Use Siebel system to retrieve complaints and respond with resolution.
- Respond to all assigned arts complaints.
- Use NYC Streets system to obtain details on permit activity.
- Maintain records including wear‑and‑tear tracking, delayed/skipped paving areas, joint repairs, special event repairs, and maps; prepare comprehensive reports.
- Conduct pre‑ and post‑inspections for milling and paving locations.
- Conduct pre‑inspections for paving eligibility.
- Update Mosaics system with pothole repair reports.
- May appear as a witness in court.
- Drive a passenger vehicle to and from work assignments.
- May train Apprentice Inspectors.

Hours:
35 Hours Per Week
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full‑time experience in city planning.
- Or a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above. Graduate education in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or related fields may substitute for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits for one year of professional experience. All candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.

After meeting the minimum requirements, one additional year of professional experience as described above. - Assignment Level IV
:
After meeting the minimum requirements, two additional years of professional experience as described above.
