The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) protects and enhances the daily economic lives of New Yorkers by licensing businesses and enforcing consumer protection laws. The External Affairs (EA) unit manages relationships with press, digital media, city hall, elected officials, government agencies, and community & faith-based organizations.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain external relationships with elected officials, government agencies, industry and community stakeholders, and members of the public.
- Conduct frequent in-person and virtual outreach to underserved communities.
- Accurately and concisely represent the work and policies of the agency in an engaging manner.
- Coordinate event logistics, locations, materials, staffing, and trainings.
- Effectively link with other departmental divisions to ensure project success.
- Provide administrative support and assistance in special or ad‑hoc projects as needed.
- Proven leadership skills, including strategic thinking and success developing and supporting high‑performing diverse work teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn new computer programs and technology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to capture and analyze data.
- Ability to read and understand laws and rules.
- Experience managing multiple assignments with competing deadlines with a high degree of detail and accuracy.
- Multilingual capacity is highly preferred.
- Driver’s license a plus.
- Flexibility in hours.

Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for two continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
