Background:
A global top 10 sovereign wealth fund is seeking an experienced professional to Head their Government Relations & Policy function within their New York office.
The role sits at the intersection of public policy, macroeconomics, and investment strategy, helping the investment team understand how U.S. government policy influences markets, sectors, and long-term capital deployment.
Working closely with senior leadership and the investment team, the individual will monitor U.S. policy developments, produce forward-looking policy analysis, and translate policy developments into insights that support investment decision-making.
This individual will report to the New York CEO and the Head of Investment Strategy.
Key Responsibilities:Legislative Review & Analysis
- Track key U.S. policy developments, particularly federal legislation, regulatory actions, and congressional activity relevant to financial markets and investment sectors.
- Provide regular updates and analysis on developments that may influence portfolio companies, sectors, or deal activity.
- Produce research notes, policy briefings, and thematic analysis assessing how policy developments may impact the macro environment and investment strategy.
- Develop forward-looking perspectives on policy direction and political developments shaping capital markets.
- Build relationships with policymakers, regulators, think tanks, and industry groups.
- Represent the firm in relevant policy discussions and industry forums.
- Work closely with investment teams, legal advisors, and external partners to incorporate policy insights into investment discussions and strategic planning.
Minimum 12 years of relevant experience with strong understanding of the U.S. policy landscape and its implications for markets and investment activity. Potential candidate backgrounds may include:
- Policy or regulatory strategy roles within financial institutions, asset managers, private equity firms, or investment banks
- Government or regulatory experience with exposure to financial markets or economic policy
- Policy research roles within leading think tanks or advisory institutions covering macroeconomic or regulatory policy
- Government affairs or policy strategy roles within large technology or infrastructure-focused companies
Candidates should demonstrate the ability to translate complex policy developments into clear insights relevant to investment strategy and market dynamic
