The Team You’ll Work With:

The Mayor’s Office for International Affairs serves as the liaison between the City and New York City’s international community, which includes 193 Permanent Missions, 116 Consulates, over 70 Trade Commissions, and the headquarters of the United Nations. The Office functions as a global platform from which the City can promote its goals for a more just and equitable society, showcase the diversity of New Yorkers, and share best practices with the world.

The Office also works to foster positive relations and to encourage collaboration between the international community and New York City’s agencies and local neighborhoods.

The Problems You’ll Solve:

The Senior Director for Municipal Partnerships leads the Mayor’s Office of International Affairs’ relationships with municipal governments, global city networks, and international urban organizations. The Senior Director develops strategic partnerships and policy exchanges that advance mayoral priorities, with a particular focus on affordability, housing, transportation, climate, public health, and democratic governance. The role also leads special international solidarity initiatives and serves as the office’s lead relationship manager for an assigned geographic region, maintaining partnerships with municipal leaders, regional organizations, and other key stakeholders.

Working closely with City agencies and international partners, the Senior Director identifies opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing that strengthen New York City and support solutions to shared urban challenges.

Specifically, the Senior Director will:
  • Manage relationships with municipal governments, global city networks, and international urban organizations.
  • Develop city-to-city partnerships and policy exchanges that advance mayoral priorities and address shared urban challenges.
  • Coordinate special international solidarity initiatives and collaborative projects with cities and local governments around the world.
  • Serve as the office’s lead liaison for an assigned geographic region, managing relationships with municipal leaders, regional organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate New York City’s participation in international municipal forums, convenings, mayoral engagements, and global city initiatives.
About You:
  • You can demonstrate experience developing and managing partnerships with municipal governments, international organizations, global networks, or other public‑sector stakeholders.
  • You have knowledge of urban policy issues, including housing, transportation, climate, economic development, public health, and democratic governance.
  • You have strong project management, relationship‑building, and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate complex initiatives across multiple partners and sectors.
  • You have experience working in international, governmental, or multilateral environments and demonstrated commitment to international cooperation, city diplomacy, and democratic solidarity.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 8+ years of experience in international affairs, education, youth development, community engagement, public policy, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Additional education or experience detailed in prior items is acceptable if it meets graduation and experience thresholds.
