The NYC Office of Community Safety (OCS) advances a whole-of-government approach to violence prevention and public safety that addresses gun violence prevention, hate crime prevention, survivor services, domestic violence prevention, and innovations in crisis response services. The Office oversees the Office of Crime Victim Services, Office to Prevent Gun Violence, Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, Office for the Prevention of Hate Crimes and the Office of Community Mental Health.
The Problems You’ll Solve:The Deputy Chief of Staff reports to the Chief of Staff and serves as a key strategic and operational partner to both the Chief of Staff and the Commissioner. Working closely with the Commissioner, the Deputy Chief of Staff helps manage the Commissioner's priorities, coordinate executive initiatives, and support the day-to-day operations of the Commissioner's Office. The Deputy Chief of Staff also supports the Chief of Staff in advancing agency-wide strategic priorities, coordinating leadership activities, and ensuring effective execution across the Office.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Executive Support to the Commissioner- Support the Commissioner in managing executive priorities, strategic initiatives, and day-to-day responsibilities.
- Prepare briefing materials, meeting agendas, presentations, talking points, and other materials for internal and external engagements.
- Help manage the Commissioner's portfolio by tracking priorities, coordinating follow-up, and anticipating emerging issues.
- Conduct research, policy analysis, and issue briefs to support executive decision-making.
- Serve as a trusted thought partner to the Commissioner on special projects and priority initiatives.
- Support the Chief of Staff in coordinating agency-wide strategic initiatives and executive priorities.
- Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the Commissioner's Office.
- Coordinate special projects and other assignments on behalf of the Chief of Staff.
- Support implementation of agency-wide initiatives that require coordination across divisions.
- Coordinate meetings of the Senior Leadership Team and track agency-wide priorities, decisions, and action items.
- Monitor progress on executive initiatives and help ensure timely implementation of commitments.
- Facilitate communication and coordination across divisions to advance Office priorities.
- Support efforts to strengthen the Office's organizational systems, processes, and internal operations.
- Assist with agency-wide planning, organizational development, and implementation of new initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve organizational effectiveness and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Coordinate with City Hall, other agencies, and external partners on initiatives involving the Commissioner's Office.
- Represent the Commissioner and the Office in internal and external meetings, as appropriate.
- Serve as a liaison between the Commissioner's Office, agency leadership, City Hall, and external partners to advance agency priorities.
- Support executive meetings and help ensure timely follow-up on cross-agency initiatives and commitments.
- Work closely with members of the Senior Leadership Team to advance Office priorities.
