The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice advances policies that promote a more equitable and vibrant New York City. The portfolio includes the City’s economic, cultural, and workforce agencies and offices.

The Mayor's Office of Worker Power (MOWP) is a new office within the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice focused on using the tools and platform of City government to build worker power. MOWP works with workers, unions, worker centers, community organizations, and City agencies to support worker organizing and campaigns, develop policies that strengthen workers' rights and power, and ensure workers have a meaningful voice in City government.

The Deputy Director/Senior Advisor reports to the Director of the Office of Worker Power and helps run the day-to-day work of the office, translating the Director's vision and external relationships into operations, staffing, and follow-through.

Help shape strategy alongside the Director and the broader DMEJ team, connecting MOWP's work to the office's wider priorities.

Support organizing campaigns and partnerships with unions, worker centers, and community organizations, particularly in industries with low union density and significant worker exploitation.

Draft policy proposals and legislative language that strengthen worker power, working closely with legal and policy staff.

Coordinate with City agencies to implement worker power initiatives and track their progress.

Monitor emerging workplace issues, including the impact of AI, algorithms, and other economic changes, and prepare briefings and recommendations for the Director.

Help plan and staff public meetings and hearings on significant worker issues.

Oversee research and data efforts tracking wage growth, workforce equity, union density, and other measures of worker power.

Serve as a key point of contact for the office and represent MOWP in the Director's absence.

• You have organizing experience and a track record of contributing to winning campaigns on behalf of workers.
• You have a strong understanding of the NYC and national labor movement, including its challenges, opportunities, and different constituencies.
• You have experience managing people, projects, or programs, and turning strategy into an executable workplan.
• You have strong working relationships and credibility with workers, unions, worker organizations, and other key stakeholders.
