Duties Description

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Beautician, you will provide beauty services to individuals receiving services, which may include:

• Providing beauty services to individuals, including hair, nail and/or skin care services.
• Determining the desired hair style based on the individuals' instructions, prescribed style standards, hair type and/or facial features.
• Combing and brushing hair using detangling and styling tools.
• Shampooing, rinsing and conditioning hair with water, liquid hair products and other solutions. In addition, using towels and hair dryers to dry the hair and scalp.
• Assessing hair styles and types to determine what care is necessary to ensure health and growth.
• Shaves, trims, shapes and/or removes facial hair, such as mustaches, beards and eyebrows, using tweezers, razors and other relevant solutions.
• May apply lotions, serums and powders to the face, neck and hair to prepare, cleanse and condition individuals' skin and scalp.
• Applies water, setting, straightening or waving solutions. Uses curlers, rollers, hot combs, straighteners or curling irons to set, straighten and curl hair.
• Sterilizes and cleans beauty instruments and tools; and may sharpen, lubricate and make minor repairs to ensure proper maintenance.
• Monitors supply levels, and orders and stocks beauty supplies.
• Dusts and cleans work areas, which will include sweeping and disposing of hair clippings and other garbage.
• Remain current on all mandated and applicable specialized trainings.
• All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Non-Competitive:

Possession of a license and current registration to practice cosmetology in New York State.
