The Grooming Salon Leader’s primary purpose is to lead and manage salon operations and team members, ensuring high customer satisfaction, a positive work environment, and strong salon performance. The role also includes performing expert‑level grooming services while prioritizing pet safety and comfort.
Essential Job Functions- Oversee day‑to‑day salon operations, ensuring smooth workflows, efficient scheduling, optimal grooming capacity, and accurate inventory management.
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of groomers—from entry‑level trainees to professional staff—providing coaching, feedback, performance evaluations, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Create and manage efficient grooming schedules that maximize productivity and accommodate customer demand while ensuring coverage during peak hours.
- Monitor salon performance metrics such as revenue, customer satisfaction, and productivity; analyze data to identify improvement areas and develop action plans.
- Collaborate with store management to achieve sales targets and salon objectives, implementing growth strategies and expanding the customer base.
- Interact professionally with pet parents, providing exceptional service, answering inquiries, offering recommendations, and resolving issues promptly.
- Stay current with grooming industry trends and best practices to enhance personal and team skills.
- Perform professional grooming services—including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning—according to pet parent instructions, breed standards, and company policies.
- Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
- Evaluate each pet’s specific needs, considering coat type, skin conditions, and temperament.
- Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and home care practices, promoting overall pet well‑being.
- Ensure the well‑being and safety of all animals in the salon; monitor for discomfort, illness, or injury, and report concerns to owners and store management.
- Perform quality checks, maintain a clean and safe grooming area, sanitize tools and equipment, and conduct daily and weekly cleaning duties in accordance with Petco hygiene and sanitation policies.
- Apply Petco’s grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, and consistency; hold salon team members accountable for these standards.
- At least 2 years of experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
- Strong leadership skills and 1‑2 years of salon management or related experience (preferred).
- High‑school diploma or GED (preferred, not required).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and grooming team members.
- Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, and behaviors.
- Expert‑level proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
- Genuine passion for animals and a desire to continue a career in pet grooming.
