The NYC Office of School Health is seeking staff nurses in all five boroughs:
Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island.
The Staff Nurse for District 75 position encompasses the performance of professional nursing services provided to public school students with disabilities by professional nursing staff. All incumbents provide direct nursing care and perform related work as necessary.
Responsibilities- Develops and implements individual treatment programs for students in need of health services.
- Develops and presents lessons in health care as well as coordinate school-based health activities to benefit special education students in the least restrictive environment.
- Reviews medical and health records of students receiving services for completion of data.
- Provides direct health care and emergency first-aid to special education students.
- Participates in multidisciplinary and parent conferences to discuss student progress and offers specific recommendations for health programs relating to individual and groups of students.
- Instructs and consults with teaching and supervisory staff on matters relating to health services.
- Serves as a preceptor for nursing students in accredited nursing programs at local colleges and universities.
- Contacts primary care facilities regarding students’ health care as it relates to the continuity of service both in school and in home settings.
- Maintains computerized and manual records, and attendance information.
- Maintains inventory and orders statistical reports, supplies and equipment.
Key Relationships:
Assists medical consultants while they are conducting physical examinations for special education students. Consults with parent/guardians regarding treatment goals and other recommendations to enhance the student’s functional ability within the classroom and home setting.
Minimum:
A current New York State License as a Registered Professional Nurse.
Preferred:
- Prior nursing experience in a school or public service setting.
- Effective communication skills needed to work with parents and guardians.
- Knowledge of health care agencies and services provided in the New York metropolitan area.
$69,456+
