Position: 4-H Camp Overlook Health Manager/Camp Nurse - Mountain View, NY
Location: New York

This position will serve as the Camp Health Manager/Camp Nurse for 4-H Camp Overlook, an overnight summer camp owned and operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Franklin and St. Lawrence County, located in Owls Head, New York. The primary responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to: overseeing the health and safety of campers and staff at 4-H Camp Overlook, ensuring all health care practices are in line with New York State Department of Health and American Camp Association standards and guidelines, and working cooperatively with the Camp Director and Camp Staff to ensure adequate physical health conditions for all staff and camp participants.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned and deemed appropriate by the 4-H Camp Overlook Director. (

NOTE:

** POSITION DETAILS:
** This position is a full-time exempt position, Sunday through Friday. The rate for this position is $600 to $800 per week commensurate on experience.

* Required Qualifications:

*** NYS Licensed Physician, NYS Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP), NYS Licensed Physician Assistant (PA), NYS Licensed Registered Nurse (RN), NYS Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
* Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.
* Experience in first aid and emergency management.
* Experience in both children and adult illness/injury care.
* Desire, ability and willingness to work and live in a camp community and to reside at 4-H Camp Overlook, Owls Head, NY (including overnights) the entire time 4-H Camp is in session.
* Ability to work flexible hours which will include evenings and weekends, as appropriate.

* Preferred Qualifications:

*** Responding to Emergencies (RTE) First Aid Training (will train if necessary).
* Demonstrated ability and experience working with children and young adults in an outdoor/recreational environment.
* Demonstrated ability to update and monitor health care, maintain records, and implement a health care plan.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate with parents and staff about camper health concerns.
* Demonstrated ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders and parent letters.

** 1. Provide health care to meet individual needs of campers and staff.
* Follow healthcare policies/procedures outlined in the 4-H Camp Overlook Department of Health Safety Manual.
* Monitor the health of all campers and staff.
* Develop a schedule for medication administration and administer medications to campers and staff.
* Establish and follow appropriate medical routines, including record keeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications.
2. Organize, maintain, and utilize adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of campers and staff.
* Set up the camp infirmary/health center.
* Inventory and put requests in for all necessary medical supplies and equipment.
3. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to New York State Department of Health standards.
* Ensure staff and camper health forms are current and on file.
* Prepare and utilize daily medical log for treatment and medications.
