Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Respiratory Therapist.

Job Responsibilities
  • Performs cardiopulmonary evaluation and patient assessment appropriate to the provision of prescribed respiratory care. Assesses and reassesses patients when administering prescribed respiratory care. Reviews pertinent portions of the medical record in connection with patient assessment. Demonstrates proficiency in performing physical examinations appropriate to the provision of prescribed respiratory care. Demonstrates proficiency in assessing the significance of blood gas results, chest radiographs, laboratory data, artificial airway placement, cuff pressure, pulmonary function, and weaning assessment protocols.
  • Documents all pertinent data following completion of any service in an approved manner in patients’ medical records, including shift reports, patient care plans, ventilator flow sheets, ICIS system entries, progress charts, department charges, CQI documentation, and CQI problem reporting/adverse reaction forms.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of policies and procedures related to the provision of comprehensive respiratory care, including emergency airway care and resuscitation, routine airway care, cuff pressure monitoring, suctioning, bronchial hygiene techniques, disaster and bioterrorism responses, and various ventilation and humidification protocols.
  • Prepares, assembles, verifies, operates, monitors, maintains cleanliness of, and discontinues equipment necessary for prescribed respiratory care, including adult and neonatal ventilators, gas systems, humidification and aerosol therapy equipment, analyzers, monitoring equipment, and airway devices.
  • Provides education to nurses and physicians related to prescribed respiratory care services; observes and monitors student performance and assists in evaluating respiratory care students.
  • Provides education to patients, families, nurses, physicians, affiliated students, and other members of the Medical Center community; develops and evaluates teaching plans based on learning needs and includes family in teaching when appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). New York State Respiratory Therapist license;
Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC - RRT credential). Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). New York State respiratory technician license;
Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC - CRT credential).

Respiratory Therapist License-NYS

Preferred Qualifications

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care, cardio-respiratory sciences or related area; three years post-graduate hospital experience as a respiratory therapist with one year significant perinatal/pediatric experience; NBRC Perinatal/Pediatric specialty credential; BCLS/ACLS Certification. Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). Associates degree in Respiratory Care; two years post-graduate hospital experience as a respiratory therapist with one year significant perinatal/pediatric experience; BCLS/ACLS Certification.
