Overview
Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.
PositionSocial Worker (Mobile)
The Social Worker offers support to eligible formerly homeless clients living in Permanent Supportive Housing to promote well-being and stability. The Social Worker is part of a specialized team working across four SRO sites in The Bronx and Brooklyn. The Social Worker will be assigned a caseload of clients at 1-2 of those sites and will coordinate closely with case management, recreational and operations staff at the building(s) to which they are assigned.

Note:
This position is in a qualified setting for clinical experience hours towards LCSW licensure.
- Masters Degree in Social Work with the expectation that LMSW licensure is secured within 1 year of hire. (Offering reimbursement for cost of exam to obtain LMSW licensure upon passing)
- Minimum 2 years experience with adults with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder and/or homeless populations.
- Familiarity with behavioral health treatment approaches and resources, including harm-reduction models.
- Position requires a combination of skills in the following areas: strengths based, solution focused, and family centered practice; experience working with diverse client populations; teamwork and communication.
- Conduct initial assessment for newly enrolled clients and follow-up assessments and clinical screenings in alignment with program protocols.
- Ensure that client eligibility documentation is on file.
- Manage a caseload of clients for routine check-ins, clinical case management, counseling and behavioral health treatment navigation.
- Develop and facilitate therapeutic and psycho educational group programming.
- Provide on-call crisis intervention support as needed.
- Utilize best practice approaches and evidence-based interventions to maximize client outcomes.
- Maintain service documentation to include client progress notes, observations and interactions about clients and incident reporting when necessary.
- Participate in internal and external case conferencing activities. Provide warm handoff referrals including accompanying clients to appointments as needed.
