Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Medical Practice Manager, this position performs routine medical assistant functions as well as other required tasks. Under the supervision of the DTC Clinical staff, the Medical Assistant will perform venipuncture and finger blood collection, including drawing, capping, and labeling of blood specimens, as well as performing EKGs.
Job Responsibilities- Perform all routine medical assistant functions with consistency, according to policy/best practice and expected service standards, while adhering to the participants’ right for privacy and dignity.
- Consistently and accurately take and document in the EMR the participant’s blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight.
- Draw blood and collect specimens according to Infection Control protocols, per MD order and consistent with all other established policies/best practices.
- Process specimens according to policy in preparation for pick-up.
- Identify specimen correctly.
- Match request form with specimen.
- Appropriately centrifuge specimens if required.
- Refrigerate specimen according to policy/acceptable practice.
- Accurately and without delay order laboratory tests as per physician’s written orders.
- Track test results.
- Inform physician in writing of canceled lab tests.
- Schedule Home Draw Labs.
- Obtain applicable reports on an ongoing basis via software.
- Consistently track lab supply inventory and order supplies as necessary while adhering to the approval process.
- Fully stock examination offices with all required medical supplies at all times.
- Perform EKGs according to policy/best practice and expected service standards while always adhering to participants’ rights.
- Perform routine tests such as dipstick, blood finger‑stick glucose, and INR according to policy/best practice and expected service standards while always adhering to participants’ rights.
- Provide services according to established safety procedures and infection control standards as per OSHA and CLHC Health Services policy and procedure, and provide services with due regard for the health, safety, and well‑being of the participant.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of any/all participant information.
- Transport participants via wheelchair or accompany ambulatory patients within the Pace Center to and from the Diagnostic Treatment Center.
- Transfer and offer assistance during transferring of participants into and out of wheelchairs, toilets, beds, and other equipment (e.g., Hoyer lift).
- Assist participants requiring help with toileting and other ADL care.
- Assist MD as requested, including translation and set up of equipment for examination and clean up when necessary.
- Understand that you are responsible for seeking feedback, instruction, and/or additional education with regard to any/all aspects of your job responsibilities that are not clear.
- Translate as needed.
- Assist with customer issues and grievances in a timely, accurate, and courteous manner, working with other departments to resolve the source of the problem(s).
- Assist with coordination of follow‑up visits and transportation for participants coming into and departing from the medical practice.
- Provide coverage for the Front Desk Area as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Medical technician training. Vision screening training.
- Experience: At least 1 year of venipuncture experience, preferably with the elderly population. Must be computer literate.
- Language: Chinese bilingual (Mandarin, Cantonese, or Fujianese).
- License/Registration: Medical Assistant Certification (must be certified Phlebotomist); EKG certification.
- Superior customer service skills, friendly, outgoing personality, tactful and courteous.
- Must possess strong interpersonal/people skills.
- Must embrace the role of a true “care‑taker.”
- Must be able to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Must be able to use all equipment as dictated by the position.
- Must have the ability to concentrate on moderate details and adapt to frequent interruptions and changes.
