The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Research Assistant V position in Dr. Lugo-Candelas' research lab at NYSPI to assist in research projects using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to better understand the mechanisms underlying typical development and psychiatric disease in infants and young children. The position is full-time and largely in-person. Weekend and evening hours are required to accommodate participant schedules.

We are specifically seeking candidates with prior research experience, preferably with children and families. Desirable qualities include speaking Spanish and having prior experience working with children.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Telephone pre-screening of potential research participants
  • Schedule research participants for evaluations and MRI scans
  • Obtain informed assent/consent from prospective research participants and their parents
  • Collect bio-specimens including urine samples for pregnancy testing and saliva samples
  • Administer and score psycho-diagnostic and cognitive assessments
  • Administer computer-based cognitive performance tasks
  • Work with MRI Technologist to collect brain imaging data
  • Enter data and perform basic data management and analyses
  • Conduct interviews and behavioral assessments both in the lab and in-participant's homes
  • Travel to participants home to conduct assessments and collect samples.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, Human Development, Neuroscience, or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and (1) year related experience. A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally in Spanish.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with families, infants, and/or children in a research or clinical research setting.
  • Demonstrated availability to work non-standard hours, including two weekday evenings every other week and up to two weekend days per month, as required to accommodate participant schedules.
