The Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department, originally established in 1905, has been serving the community with dedication for over a century. Based at the firehouse on 15 Noel Road in the New York City Metropolitan Area, the organization has evolved into a vital part of fire safety and emergency medical services (EMS). In 1994, the department established a Marine Company and implemented New York State Certifications for all firefighters and EMTs.
Operating entirely on a volunteer basis, the organization relies on community support, grants, and fundraising to uphold its mission of helping others. The Broad Channel Volunteers, Inc. is a 501(C)3 nonprofit, deeply rooted in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property in its community.
This role is an on-site volunteer position with the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department, located in the New York City Metropolitan Area. Volunteers will assist with firefighting, emergency medical services (EMS), and community outreach activities. Day-to-day responsibilities may include responding to fire emergencies, providing basic or advanced pre-hospital medical assistance, supporting swift water rescue operations, and participating in training exercises. Volunteers will also contribute to maintaining equipment, assisting in fundraising efforts, and promoting safety awareness within the community.
Qualifications- Knowledge of or willingness to learn firefighting and emergency response protocols.
- Experience or certification in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or healthcare fields is highly valued.
- Strong teamwork, problem-solving skills, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Physical fitness and readiness to perform physically demanding tasks in emergencies.
- Effective communication skills and a commitment to serving the community with empathy and dedication.
- Availability to attend on-site training and response activities at the New York City Metropolitan Area location.
- Formal certifications such as New York State Firefighting or EMT certifications are advantageous but not mandatory; training will be provided for committed volunteers.
